Looks like they added more cache to the processor, judging by those pictures.

Sweet, I needed a new wallpaper. :p

I suppose it wonderful news to hear AMD is on schedule. I'm not going to say things are going to turn around for AMD, but, if all the news is to be believed, it looks like things are looking better.

Most importantly, it seems to confirm what I've been saying all along...

"AMD says it's on track to ramp production of 45nm CPUs in the first half of this year and to have 45nm processors available in the second half of the year."

"According to recent reports on rumor sites, 45nm Phenoms may show up as early as the third quarter of this year."

Now that is awesome! They got Shanghai samples out the door on the same time they got B3 Phenom out there.

Sounds like AMD is starting to strike a hot iron! :Q

Phynaz, here is the source of the quote from CTho9305. This requires A0 silicon to be rather healthy unless I missed something in prior statements from AMD.

very nice, AMD should stay in the game with Intel, that way the consumers will benefit in technology and pricing.

Wow. Actual working "shanghai" samples already?

Whats the rumoured specs for shanghai? I did read that its L3 cache was around ~6MB.

Has AMD said anything about Deneb compatibility with existing motherboards?

Do they expect current AM2+ boards to support voltages and the like?

(don't want to repeat i680 lack of support with Yorkfield)

I think it's more an issue of IMC / DDR3 ...

Ah, I see then, yes that is pretty much an upgrade killer (for a lot of folks, not all of course) then if you got to toss your mobo and DDR2 ram on the way to upgrading to Deneb.

I believe that the first iteration of both Deneb and Shanghai are 100% compatible.
DDR3 isn't till next year.

I see that your expecations are right based on this roadmap from a german site:
http://www.computerbase.de/bild/news/19025/1/

Deneb for AM2+ w/DDR2 support for Q4. Deneb and Deneb FX for AM3 w/DDR3 is Q1/09.

Here's the link (google translated from German) in case no one has seen it yet.

Regor w/L3 could be an interesting little chip!
