...but I actually got a better deal at BestBuy with a 10% coupon (not public), which got the price down to $323.10 (BB has them for $359). Went with that deal for my HTPC build, just missing an X300 deskmini which are still impossible to get...

Crazy. They seem to be wanting to get rid of this APU, but in fact this is an AWESOME APU, because it can tie you over with relatively decent onboard graphics in these GPU-lean times. It's not as good as a 5800X, but darn close in most cases. Maybe people don't know about this APU and are not buying? Good thing I have not picked this up yet from BB, will price-match for sure :)

Where would the integrated graphics fall in the scheme of cheap dedicated gpus- A 1030? Better to buy a 5800X and a 100.00 1030 or the 5700G?

Yeah, I would say it compares performance-wise to a 1030 (1050 has almost twice the performance). 5800X + 1030 would probably run you at least $150 more, so this is the diff. 5800X has a larger L3 cache, supports up to 128GB RAM, and has PCI Express 4 - so if these are important to you go for the 5800X (I think the real estate for these was taken by the graphic card circuitry on the 5700G). The 5700G is way more efficient in terms of power (65 vs 105 Watts). In real life they are pretty close performers though... With the prices dropping, to me it's a tossup depending on what you need - I definitely need the on-board graphics for my HTPC, so that's why I got the 5700G.

I'm curious. How would either compare to my spare system if I replaced both my CPU and GPU with one of these APUs?

My 5600g does 4.65GHz boost with the Radeon software one click overclocking. My 5700g does 4.825GHz boost using it. The Asus TUF series boards run the Vega on both, at 2.3GHz by picking the extreme setting in the UEFI. No work needed. I am very happy with both.

And I keep seeing budget builds on reddit using the 3600, which for me leads to the - But Why? meme. 5600G is better in every way, in the same price bracket, and you get a surprisingly capable IGP for free.

That was one motivating behind me upgrading my main rig to a R9 5900X 12C/24T CPU recently, the threat of possible supply-chain disruptions, maybe I won't be able to get one at a good price anymore in 2-3 months (probably mostly just have the "Ryzen 3D" chips in the pipeline by then), and my current board (Asus B450-F ROG STRIX Gaming ATX) will take a Zen3, unknown if it will take Zen3D, which it probably will, just need BIOS update for it.

Plus, Alder lake being 2-10% faster for gaming in some instances doesn't bother me, as Ryzen is still better for full-tilt DC computing and mining. (Eg. "marathon" tasks, rather than "sprint" tasks, and uses less power overall besides.)

I think the 3400G is popular because you can drop it in an older MB whereas the 5 series require a new MB. I'd get a 5700G to replace my 1700X but my Gigabyte AB350 doesn't support it and I don't want to have to buy all new stuff, new copy of windows, etc.

Waiting for online retailers to drop the 5700G CPU to $260. Got to happen after Thanksgiving or following CyberMonday. If not, when Zen3+3D V Cache is released. No hurry since, if existing Zen 3 motherboards will accept this new CPU, expect the 5700G will go down even more. Plus, in January, You Intel will release their 65W Alder Lake too. I hoping for a 5800g and 5900g in 65W in January to compete with Alder Lakes low watt CPUs. I decided to wait till January 2022 to see what will be released then. What more powerful APU!

I just saw that myself, lowest i've ever seen for either processor. I have the 5600G in my media center PC and it's a fantastic chip. I can play a ton of steam games with ease on it.

I don't have a micro center but I got lucky and bought a NIB 5600G from LouPoir here on the forums for $210. If I had the opportunity to get a 5700G for $250 I may have grabbed one instead. The 5700G seems to like higher clocked memory though compared to the 5600G. I can only hope people sleep on the next gen offerings so I can grab one this cheap :cool:.

Wonder if they will make any G chips with the 3D V cache - that would be sweet, but I think they may just give us the 5800X3D for AM4, at least at first, and maybe a 5900X3D later...
