Ordered a 3700X earlier today off of Newegg and I have my X370 BIOS ready. Hopefully I can have my machine completely done and tested by next weekend.

Vega 64 in for one last hurrah but I do have the water block going on there now, as well as an additional 140mm X-flow radiator.

Appears that Microcenter will give you $50 back with a Ryzen 3000 CPU and motherboard combo and $50 back with a Ryzen 3000 CPU and Navi combo.

It looks like you can net $100 back in total.

I shall wait out a few weeks before making the CPU purchase.

Just need to pick a case and power supply now.

I'm leaning toward the NZXT H200 unless I find something I like better.

Question do you all download the chipset drivers from the mobo manufacturer or do you download it from AMD.com? Just watched a video with someone saying the mobo driver may not include Amd power plans.

Hmm okay, X470 probably supports it too. That RAM OC is pretty terrible though. Probably a side-effect of using an old AGESA version.

So while im waiting for my order is there anything i need to download other than the drivers from the Asus website? Anything i should be aware of or know about since this is the second time in my life i am building a pc using Amd?

Get Win 10 x64 1903 ready for a fresh install.

Update your BIOS before OS install, if needed.

Install the X570 chipset drivers from AMD after OS is done.

No luck, in person, first come, first serve.

Getting a 3700X now and a fancy-ish board (depending on availability) will be OC-ing this chip, cooling TBD.

Preface: United States, Midwest, was away from home (3 - 4 Micro Centers within driving distance), visiting family, leaving for home on 7/7

We were in the middle of driving home (1:30 pm ish EST) and I got a text message from Micro Center texting Q/A service (Columbus store) that the 3000 series could be reserved on-line now.

Hooray! (3900X long sold out though)

BUT

Cell phone service was 1 LTE bar / some 3G / no service.

After getting home and unpacking, I decided to run a 3700X (with some OC) until TR3 comes out. MAYBE get a 3900X down the road.

Ryzen Master is *technically* the best monitoring software, since it comes from AMD, you do not need to OC to install it.

I have it on the 2200G server system and I do not OC that.

HWiNFO64 is second best to Ryzen Master for monitoring.

Hope it works out for you. The Ultra looks like a pretty solid choice actually. 6-layer and respectable VRM config. Cross your fingers on the UEFI. I got a Gigabyte board as well . . . not exactly looking forward to dealing with their UEFI layout, but if I can figure it out then it should work just fine.

I got a 3900X reserved at Microcenter for pickup tonight but I'm waffling about which motherboard to get. Initially I was dead set on either the Aorus Master or Crosshair VIII due to the excellent VRM layout but, after seeing the mediocre results reviewers have gotten with a manual OC, I'm reconsidering.

If I plan on using PBO and AutoOC, is there really any downside to picking up a mid-range board?

IMO, the best mid-range boards available at MC are:

Asus Prime Pro ($250)

VRM: 12+2 (DrMOS 50A)
PCB Layers: ?

Gigabyte Aorus Pro ($270)

VRM: 12+2 (IR3553 40A)
PCB Layers: 6

Haven't used a Gigabyte board in a long time so I'm not sure how they compare to Asus as far as quirks and software go.

I hope we see more B350/B450/X370/X470 builders in here. Not only are you getting good value, but hopefully you all may put more pressure on the mobo OEMs to keep up that UEFI support. Squeeky wheels and all that.

Make some noise if they are not taking care of your needs. You are just as important as the x570 buyers.

I have a Gigabyte B450 AORUS PRO WIFI board, with an R5 1600 in it. I just ordered a new 3rd-Gen R5 3600.

I'm curious, if I can get PCI-E 4.0 to work in this board. I want to test out a PCI-E 4.0 x4 NVMe SSD. (When I can get the funds to buy it.) The newest BIOS update (besides the NPRP "press" BIOS beta), has AGESA 1.0.0.2 in it, and it says "3rd-Gen Ryzen CPUs fully supported". Under the CPU support list, it does list all of the new 3rd-Gen Ryzen CPUs (including the 3950X!!!! 16C/32T!) as supported, as of BIOS F40. (Bolded emphasis mine.)

So, my question is, by saying not just "supported", but "FULLY supported"... do they mean that these existing B450 boards, support PCI-E 4.0 peripherals, like dGPUs and NVMe SSDs? I'm crossing my fingers. If not, I guess that I'll have to drop another $150-250 on an X570 board to get some PCI-E 4.0 x4 NVMe goodness. Oh well. Have to wait a few months in that case, then.

UEFI may be uglier/worse. They were competent in terms of CPU support but using the UEFI was a chore (x470 generations). This time around, I dunno. Haven't seen a proper review.

Anyway 6 layer PCB + 12-phase VRM should be more than sufficient.

DDR4-3600 means either b-die or that newer Hynix stuff that clocks pretty high. Even bad Hynix hits DDR4-2933 or better these days (on Pinnacle Ridge). Sounds like he's got a pre-review UEFI.

Probably not. If you got a really early beta UEFI revision then it might work, if it ever worked in the first place. Though a 1.0.0.2 AGESA UEFI might be early enough to qualify. What you want is 1.0.0.3AB for proper operation all-around. Without it you'll get lame stuff like the guy I mentioned above who can't get more than DDR4-2666 working on his board. And broken/non-functional boost etc.

Ryzen is already a great deal and it's worth it for many without the money back. I'm tempted to do something similar to you as I want a mini-ITX 3600 build. That means, for me, that the 5700 (or 5700XT) is $100 off. Previously, I had been looking at a 3600 and a Radeon VII and now I can get a 5700XT for effectively $300 instead of a Radeon VII for $680.

And that's a silly price.

I've picked up a 3700X and a Gigabyte X570 Elite board at a Microcenter. I was initially put off by rumored X570 board prices but it turns out there are boards with reasonable prices (after the combo deal).

In the process of flashing my X370 board now. Just need to get through a couple of versions before I flash the Zen 2 ROM. I don't think I ever flashed this board since the initial AGESA updates were released in 2017 lol

Props to ASRock for the non beta BIOS though.
