Just installed my 2700X into an Asrock X370 Taichi flashed to latest 4.60 BIOS. The boost is not working particularly well on this board at this point. Loading up one thread I really only see it go up to 4.25 GHz, rarely at that, and it usually stays in the 4.1-4.15 range. With one core loaded it's at 42C and well under the PPT, EDC and TDC power limits in Ryzen master. Not sure how to make it go to 4.3-4.35 like it's supposed to, I haven't seen it hit those numbers even once under light one thread load.

I even manually plugged in the precision boost overdrive limits from the_stilt's mini review (1000W, 114A/168A TDC/EDC limits).

Anyone have any suggestions or am I stuck buying X470?
The only thing I have read, is that the 470 does everything the 370 does, but a little better. I think you have proved that. 4.25 was not even possible on the 1800x at anything but insane voltage. So, I think your Taichi is doing fine. But if you want max performance, you need the max motherboard.

Strangely though, someone on reddit has a B350 that boosts better than my X370. https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/8dpsry/r7_2700x_on_b350_confirmed_pb2_and_xfr2_work_fine/

Maybe I just need to wait for the new 1.0.0.2 BIOS. That reddit user's board has the new agesa out already but Asrock haven't gotten around to it yet so I'm using 1001(a?).

You want 1.0.0.2 AGESA and you will also want to make sure you have Windows 10 set to use the "Balanced" (or High Performance?) power plan and NOT the "Ryzen Balanced" plan which is optimized for Ryzen 1xxx series.

Yep I swapped back to normal balanced already. Guess I will wait for the new agesa and see what happens. I actually have seen it touch 4.325 very briefly since posting, but it won't hold it for a sustained load. I am guessing there are some settings that I have left on Auto that the board doesn't set properly yet.

Decided to put the 2700X into the old Chieftec Dragon case, whose last AMD CPU was the S939 Athlon 64 3200+. Could not get a reasonably priced X2 chip, so it was Core 2 Duo E6300.
It has 3 80mm fans that will be controlled using an NZXT Sentry 2. PSU is a refurbished Corsair RM 750 Gold full modular.

This case, but not windowed, same color. Sooo heavy, lol. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811125267

I've had Intel CPUs in the past, but decided to switch things up. It's been a long time since I've upgraded currently running an i5-760, so the switch to a Ryzen 2600 will be a huge jump for me.

Hopefully I didn't make a mistake with my choices but I went with the Ryzen 5 2600 + Gigabyte Gaming 5 wifi + Gskill 3200mhz Ram. Oh and I bought a Dark Rock CPU cooler to keep things nice and quiet. My current rig is loud and I wanted to put some extra effort in making this new one a bit more silent.

Oh yeah! Long time lurker but a first time poster!

Can I see some Aida64 DDR4 3600CL16 16 16 36 (+good subtimings) bench at 4.2GHz?

Friend is going to buy ITX build soon so I am thinking about i7 8700/K or R5 2600/X. i7 8700/K delided of course.

I am wondering how fast is it, for 144Hz gaming.

Remind me again in about 10 days, when I get my motherboard, and I will.

So Computerbase got really good numbers by having DDR4 chips at 3466 MHz with the timings 15-15-15-36. Anyone know how easy it is to achieve this? And if yes, which specific memory sticks do you guys recommend (I don't even know what's Samsung B-die or not)?

I'm currently running an Intel ITX setup, and thinking about upgrading to the one of the X-470 ITX cases (when they come out) + the 2700X. What's the best product recommendations (motherboard + ram chips) for me to do, if I want to achieve good DDR4 chips with as low timings as possible?

Aside from the obvious Gskill Flare series, the Trident Z is often samsung B-die.

I'm going to replace my Asus Prime X370 ( ... ) and 1700X with a 2700X and a real high-end and high quality X470 mainboard. I'll keep the 2x 8GB 3200 CL 14 G.Skill Flare X RAM.

I've thought of either the AsRock X470 Taichi or the Asus X470 Crosshair Hero 7.
So, what is your recommendation for the mainboard, especially regarding UEFI quality and RAM compatibility. Also Linux compatibility is a must-have.

I really like AsRock, since the days of the 775Dual-VSTA. My last few Intel boards were AsRock, but the only AM4 board last year that passed muster for me that I could get at launch was the Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3. Which turned out fine with a 1700 and mild OC / undervolt.

Trying out an Asus X470 Pro right now, but might switch to the AsRock X470 Taichi after supply has smoothed out.

Is AMD going to release a B450 chipset? It would this would be better suited to the 2600 then the X470 is.

Got the board installed in the case this morning with CPU, RAM, SSD and cooler.

Here is an album of the Wraith Prism, the bottom is not finished that well. Will need to un-mount and lap in the future.

edit: oops, Prism not Max, updated album name

My first one looked like https://imgur.com/a/IAT9uGr
The store was willing to let me exchange the cooler including the cpu, the second cooler isn't any better and the second CPU performs terrible. Does only run full load @3,8 ~ 3,9GHz with 1,325vcore.

Team T-Force DARK 32GB (2 x 16GB) 288-Pin DDR4 SDRAM DDR4 3200 (PC4 25600) Desktop Memory Model TDRED432G3200HC16CDC01 https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820331062

These turned out to be B-die, not sure the quality, if I can run CL14 on them or a higher OC yet.
How did you determine they were B-die? There's a program called Taiphoon Burner that'll give you lots of information.
The reason I asked is because B-die is usually Cas 14 at 3200 instead of cas 16.

What are y'alls experience with NVme drives? I see Gigabyte has a Recommended list for them, but am thinking not following it because finding the listed drives is proving difficult and what I did find seems rather weak compared to others I have seen. Are there really issues with these drives like there might be with RAM?

I took the heatsink off and googled the number on the chip. K4A8G085WB-BCPB

But, if they are lower binned chips, they may have only been validated for those timings at that voltage at that speed.

So, with some extra milli-volts, I may be able to run the tweaked timings The Stilt has out here.

I don't recall any issues in the first Ryzen build thread, but have only used a 960 EVO with the 1700 and have not installed Windows on the 2700X yet.

Well, I have one on every Ryzen system, 1700x,1800x,4 threadrippers, and soon on my 2700x
