I no longer game and don't do anything intensive other than once in a while editing RAW files, other than that it is 2 big(24" 2k /27 4k) screens, teams, streaming and other business applications.

Itching for a video card instead of using the onboard UHD630 for my aging HP 400 SFF G5 with a 180w 80plus PS, I understand the only safe bet is 1030 but looking at HP spec got me thinking as it listed RX550x(50w card) as an option. What's are the chances of RX6400(53w) will work?

Goal #1 is not to burn up my house.

Parts are i5 8500/16+8gb ram/M2/SATA SSD/SATA HD(can be removed) and normal amount of USBs.

wondering how this card performs in pcie 3.0 system< have opted for rx 5500instead, although it has double the tdp, but also offers 3 to 4 digital outputs.
RX 5500 is a better card all things considered. At current pricing that is. As it was horribly overpriced for a couple of years, making the 6400 the easy choice on release.

I bought the XFX 6400 because it is the best tiny card. In either PCIE 4.0 or 3.0 tweaking game settings to keep from exceeding the 4GB frame buffer is the key to best performance. Even then, there are some performances losses at PCIE 3.0 in certain titles, but it still beats a 1050ti handily. Considering what that card continues to sell for, and its popularity on Steam surveys, the 6400 was again, an easy choice at launch.

Now, the LP single slot like mine are the only ones that can justify the price. As nothing else can match them for the use case. The rest need to be sub $100 to make any kind of sense now.

I use a HDTV 1080, "32 1440p freesync 75Hz, or "27 1080 165Hz. All individually, so one DP and one HDMI is perfect for my use case for the 6400.

The mini-ITX build I use it in is fairly quiet. I can't hear it over any of the other fans in silent mode. It can run hot due to the design with one tiny fan, but it hasn't throttled on me as of yet. I will undervolt it a bit should it be necessary. It is certainly low power, I have yet to see it use 50W usually in the 20s and 30s in the games I use it for.

If you can use a double slot card, the LP Gigabyte looks much beefier.
