PII 965 has been reportedly listed on some of the e-tailers in Europe. Other than that, nothing much is known for PII.

On the other hand, Athlon II series is rumoured to debut soon, with all flavors of X4/X3/X2.

Ummm...I'm answering this on an Athlon II 550 X2. They've been out for awhile now...
Mine is 3.1 GHz (mild OC to 3.34), 7mb cache, 2 active cores. I didn't activate the other 2 disabled cores because most of the stuff I use on this system is single thread (games, office, etc...), so higher clocks on 2 cores is better for me.

The 550 is actually a Phenom II X2, not an Athlon II X2. He's also right in that there will be Athlon II X3 and X4 chips, which are different than the Phenom II X3 and X4 in that I believe they lack L3 cache (or maybe they have a much smaller one).

Actually those don't have L3 cache at all. They're called Athlon II processors codename Regor which are real dual cores, not defective quad cores, which consumes less power and dissipates less heat, those disguised Quad Cores have the codename Callisto. (Also there's an Athlon X2 codename Kuma.)

Isn't that what I said? I threw in the caveat parantheses because I was only 95% positive with my initial statement "they lack L3 cache".

Well, in retrospect I could have been more specific, aand I can see how you would take my statement in another direction. I know the Athlon II processors are a different core, but it's my understanding they have the same (or similar) tweaks as the Phenom II processors except AMD just left out the L3 cache when designing/manufacturering them.

And the Athlon X2 Kumas are Phenoms with a couple of cores disabled.

As others have said, no you're not.

Thank God you were there to confirm what everyone else said...very helpful.

This was my bad for not checking the distributor...
However, my point stands about Athlon II already being in the market. The 250 is an Athlon II chip and has been out for some time.

Don't get mad, I wasn't correcting you, I was just being more specific since your post was a bit dubious due to "the lack of L3 cache or they have a much smaller one" sentence.

Only 3.34? Cmon you can go a lil higher and undervolt at the same time, and/or unlock those cores. ;)

Distributor?

I don't get how somebody that posts on an enthusiast board doesn't seem to know what cpu is in his computer, but whatever...
