Will AMD even look at you if you say "oem"? Can I exchange + $$ for a non-torched CPU? Does anyone have experience with this?

I have an old winchester that got fried, and I was gonna practice de-lidding on it before I took to another CPU that actually works.

And, I'm too impatient to wait until Monday to call and find out, so if anyone has tried to RMA an OEM CPU to AMD, I would appreciate some info on what they'll say or do or be all saying to me and getting up in my grill.

cheers

From my experience with OEM cpu's, you are out of luck. Typically only 30days through the vendor you purchased it from ONLY. Retail cpu's of course you go through AMD for direct replacement.

It's sad, but i've thrown away many bad oem cpu's that had burnt out and were still very fast.

Good luck!

thanks dave... it sounds like I'm going to be removing the IHS on that poor brain-dead winchester.
