AMD Richland question

Hi guys, so im going to be building a decent base for a gaming computer. I have around $200 for MB,CPU and memory. My original thought was A10-6800k, ASrock MB and Some 1333 Memory i have local for around $220. for the amount spent on the $150 APU, could i get a decent CPU/Dedicated Video card combo? what would compare performance wise?

the Richland IGP will be much slower than the results you see on reviews because of the 1333 memory,

also, you can get the Athlon X4 750K and a 7750 DDR5 for little more, and get 2x the performance (even more if you use only 1333 memory),

+1 Richland isn't worth it.

With a dgpu just get the cheapest RAM you can find.

I would try to spring for a HD 7770 also for better gaming performance. Can find them around $99.99

So i was actully looking at a http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814127687 when reading your post. What is comparable in performance to a10-6800k without the APU?

The Athlon x4 750k would be very close and can oc very easy

Cpu performance of the 6800k is also pretty similar to the i3. Maybe better in multithreaded apps but lower in single threaded. Gaming performance is pretty close as well with a discrete gpu.

HD7750 is about twice as fast as the igp on the 6800k and HD7770 is another 30 or 40 percent faster than the 7750.

Richland's pricing makes it a turd, not worth the increase over trinity (about 5% increase in gpu power). Twice the performance for less money (factor in that to get the best about of richland you will have to spend a little more on RAM vs the 7750 build).

Ok what if I ran a a4-5300 with on board just to be able to play league of legends. Would this CPU be an ok base to add a stand alone card later on?

Maybe consider the A8-6600K? Its multiplier unlocked and should be alright for gaming for a few months until you can afford a GPU.

There's no doubt that APU's aren't ready to take over from discrete *YET*. The one exception would be for TDP reasons. With the advances that were made for the PS4 though, it won't be too much longer before the best budget gaming build will be with an APU. Then they'll move up from their.

What are you doing for case/powersupply etc? Power supply matters a bit if you are considering a discrete GPU. I'm also asking because if you are using parts from an old PC, do you have a video card from that old PC as well?

Right now, richland is a little overpriced just because it's brand new released. If you wait a few months I'd bet price will drop by $10-$20.

That said, if you want to buy now, I'd buy an A10-5800K. The difference between it and a 6800k is very small, while the price difference is about $30, depending on where you buy. Microcenter has some really nice deals for CPU + motherboard combos.

While it's true that you can get significantly better performance with a dedicated GPU, as you mentioned league of legends, the 5800k AGP is more than enough to run LoL at decent framerates, in my experience.
