*edit*
I don't know why it wasn't included in the first couple lines of the article, but:
--AMD Q1 2010 Revenue $1.57B

Remember, this includes $325 million from divesting GlobalFoundries which helps make this quarter look a lot better than it actually was. Still, they booked a profit which is good.

It's not due to the divestiture of GlobalFoundries but rather the change from the Consolidation method of accounting to the equity method of accounting for AMD share of Globalfoundries.

Bankruptcy isn't even a remote concern. It simply won't happen, and all the wishful thinking of some won't achieve anything.

They were posting billion dollar losses for a few years there. Eventually people stop lending you money when it looks like there's no hope of paying it back.

Those billion dollar losses were mostly write-offs, not as much losing money as revaluing certain (mostly ATI related) aspects of the company.

I'm shocked, for 3 1/2 years and they never had a profit until now; excluding the Intel money in 2009Q4.

They have something like $2.5b in debt, and then a load of convertible notes I think. Not that terrible, and definitely serviceable.
They did shed a lot of debt when they sold off most of their foundry side.

That $325m GF payment was a negative, not a positive.

and my amd stocks just dropped 7% this morning ... why is good news => bad stocks!?

Because of the charges against Goldman Sachs pretty much every stock is down... Also, I'm sure a lot of people are taking profits on AMD after the recent run up.

Its the market in general that is causing some of the AMD/Intel stocks being lower.

I acutally sold off most of my AMD stock a couple weeks ago at $9.45/share. I paid $6.20(or was it $5.80??)/share so I came out pretty good 🙂

Now if my intel stock would get alittle bit higher so I can get a decent profit from them. I especially need Mattel to get the ball rolling. I've had that stock for 3-4 years now and I still couldn't make much of a profit if I sold now. Thats one stock I should not have bought! At least its been going up lately...
