Dunno why chips like the 4C/8T 5300G are not sold in the DIY market, there s more money that can be made than selling them to OEMs at razor margin prices.

They probably don't have very many of these chips. Anything that falls into these low-end bins is barely above the waste bin. These are the chips that had a defect that took out the entire GPU or had a GPU so poorly performing it was better just to disable the whole thing.

There aren't many of those and it's probably easier for AMD to find one or two manufacturers that want the whole lot as opposed to asking hundreds of different retailers if they want a small handful.

if you have 1000 chips, and only 500 people are willing to buy them at your current margin, it would be beneficial to turn leftover 500 chips into lower tier, even if they are perfectly fine. Sure, you'll get less profit, but it's still profit. And you're not compromising on margins of the fully enabled chip. R5 5600(X) is most likely outselling 5700X/5800X, which means AMD disables cores to maintain ryzen 5 / ryzen 7 pricing tiers.

Checking up on AM4 prices, visited Pcpartpicker today and looked at CPUs currently being sold for AM4, then took out ones that were obviously priced by dumb bots, and was left with this.
Notes:
- 5100 makes sense at 79 dollars maybe, not a dollar more. it'll replace 4500 and 4100 if it ever releases
- 5700 (Cezanne) doesn't make sense, as 5600 (Vermmer) is too good at a little more.
- AMD still makes matisse, probably as a cheap way to get PCIe 4.0 to the gpu, so for R5 3600 + 6500 XT + B550 probably...
- Oldest chip amd still produces in volume is picasso (3200G), confirming recent rumors/news that AMD were starting to produce those chips again.

Apparently in Germany most sold are in order 5800X3D, 7800X3D, 5700X, 7950X3D, 5600, 7600X, it is surely different in other markets, particularly in countries with lower income.

I’m assuming you’re basing this off of MindFactory data. I wouldn’t generalize their sales data to the whole market for the country.

Oddly, they still sell the 3400G as well (or I see it listed as available) for $129, which is an awful price for it as the cheaper 4600g beats it in almost every category.

Those 3400G chips are likely from leftover dies for embedded where its guaranteed availability didn't end yet. But yeah, price wise not worth a consideration unless a 1:1 replacement is required for whatever reason.

Those German numbers surely are interesting... I'm not at all suprised to see the 5700x as the third most-sought CPU. That piece of silicon is probably the best back-for-the buck SKU of the whole AM4 bunch, and will have a good, long life - like the 2500K or the C2Q Q6600 and Athlon XP 2500+ before it.

2021 actually. But that was under Embedded (transitioned in 2014), which IIRC, once it transitions to Embedded the buyer loses the discounts. So the distributor would be paying like $200 for it.

It's not really the same as AM4 at this point.

OK the 5600X3D made sense... but the 5100 im sort of lost.

If you wanted a low power cpu, wouldn't the APU's found in Mini's be a better choice?
If you wanted a budget, just how cheap are these cpu's?
Because the ones on Mini's are pretty cheap as well and probably offer better performance.

The 5800X3D is a great cpu for gaming.
I have built 3 systems already with it and a Radeon 6750XT for family, and they play AAA titles in 1440p like butter.
The 5600X3D i predict will also be a great cpu as well, seeing how the extra cores a 5800X3D has offer only a slight improvement, but you have less heat to worry about on a 5600X3D.

I predict the 5800X3D will probably easily outlast 4 years as the go to for a gaming cpu in the mid tier category.
Only problem as i stated eariler is the boards as that the CPU is now pin on board and i don't see the boards being in production for that long.

I remember they did this on phenoms, and it took like a couple of weeks for modders to find the shunt to reenable them.

I figure I'll probably wait until its all used market only given inflated prices but the igp model chips will make good utility/server cpus for a long time.

We already know that the yields are too good for AMD and Intel to be selling as many cut down chips as they do. Most 4/6 core parts are likely fully capable, just not at the voltages and clock speeds that the full dies are being sold at.

I disagree, which is why it's taken so long for the 5100 to come out. They were accumulating enough busted IGP chips for a release to make sense.

Most busted (and I'll take this to also include chiplets that aren't capable of hitting performance targets for some other bin) are having hardware physically disabled that would otherwise be at least partially functional.

The bottom bin is whatever minimum level of functionality is possible to scrape together that would otherwise mean tossing a chip in the garbage. Some may truly have GPUs that won't function at all due to a flaw in non-redundant circuitry. Others probably have a (partially) working GPU, but the CPU cores couldn't make the next bin as lowly as that may be. This is whatever's lowest common denominator keeps the worst 1% of chips from getting tossed.

They could likely split these into two or more different bins that offer some mix of features and performance, but why bother when the numbers are so small? These almost always go to OEMs instead of hitting the DIY market.

It depends on where you buy PC hardware.As an example, in my EU area or country "R5 4600G is much more expensive 3euro higher price".

Old R5 3400G is ok, the price is as it is nothing can be done there.The biggest problem with that old CPU is as expected power consumption = performance vs Renoir APU.Samsung 12nm is absolutely incomparable to the much better TSMC 7nm manufacturing process+Zen 2 CPU in monolithic design.
