AMD RAM Choices.. Hmmmm...

It used to be that RAM was RAM, didn't much seem to matter what you bought, but now.... sheesh, the choices! And to make it even more complicated everyone has their own opinion on what the "best" brand/type of RAM is. So I ask you this, for an AMD system running Nforce2, what would be the best, in your opinion, brand/type of RAM for a system like this? Include your reasoning as well if possible.

For overclocking, Corsair XMS is the way to go. Very few memory modules can handle aggressive timings and high clockspeeds like Corsair XMS memory.

If you're not overclocking and just want quality memory, then Crucial is the way to go. Even though it isn't specified to run at aggressive timings, it usually can. I'm running my PC2100 CAS2.5 Crucial memory at 145MHz 2-2-2-6 timings.

I agree, Corsair has proven themselves time and again to be tops in the high end memory market, delivering timely exceptional quality overclocker-friendly RAM. Crucial is as well another top performing RAM maker. Other good ones include Kingston and Samsung. I'm not sure about OCZ as I used to hear forum complaints about their memory or whatnot.

As far as which type of RAM is best, it's pretty much between RDRAM (aka Rambus) and DDR RAM. Current market trends bode well for DDR RAM as AMD chipsets continue to use this type exclusively and Intel continues to come out with more and more DDR-based chipsets like Granite Bay and next year's Springdale. So it may just be a few years before RDRAM is completely phased out.
