The idea that they're raising prices because of "production" problems is nothing but PR talk for price gouging.

I also agree with them being able to charge whatever the market will bear.
As for me, I'll enjoy my new $150 HIS HD4890 1GB by the end of next week.
I'm not concerned about DX11 until a year or two from now. There probably won't be any good DX11 game until fall of next year(if not later).

Everybody gather round its Graphics Card Poker!
AMD : I raise 10$.
Retailers : I see your 10$ and raise you 30$.
AMD : I'll call.

Glad I'm not buying anytime soon. :p

Since I have no need to purchase a new video card yet, I hope AMD makes a lot of money off the 5K series before a price war ensues. They need the cash.

Glad I bought mine when they first came out for the original msrp. My question now is, is there any game on the horizon that looks to rival Crysis in gpu needs ?

There is nothing you can't throw at 5870 CF it cannot run at max settings at 2560x1600, short of Crysis, and I still get 35-40 on enthusiast with 2xaa, so I can't see myself upgrading to a pair of nv's new cards just to get 5-10 fps more.

If game devs don't come out with some new, super engine, we've reached the point where there is no need for more gpu horsepower.

Welcome to the market economy.

I actually applaud AMD for doing this. They need the money and we need them to stay afloat.

hahah, "the market economy"? take a look outside the isolated world of high-end GPU buyers. the economic situation is bleak and the US debtor "market" is ready to collapse. people are tiring of buying our debt that we can't even pay the interest on. think the Dubai defaults are big? wait 'til it's the US. the dollar is going to devalue further in the meantime and that will trigger inflation on important things, forget about luxury GPUs.

but back to GPUs - yeah, just another reason to keep waiting. a $299 card selling for $500 is as stupid as the $199 card selling for $399. They can keep them.

But yes, NVidia really needs to get in on this with something competitive soon, so prices come back down on the AMD products.

Well, right now the retail stores are raising the prices over MSRP as it is. I'd rather see AMD and its partners get a bit more of the price-gouging pie (actually, the board makers might be getting all of that $10), than have it all go to online retailers.

Whoo need your over $100-150 overpriced 5800 series V.Card ?
By this price you can buy 2 PS3 or XboX360 and bunch of games and it will hold another 5 year at least until new generation systems will arrive.
WALMART and all retailers are selling game consoles like a hell, here's your PROFIT AMD.

I spend $1400 for new i7 core system(self build) and still waithing for my XFX 5850 from Tiger, now i realise how big mistake i made.

Good thing I'm not in the market for a new card.

This looks the same as nVidia during their 8-series era. No real competition means they can charge whatever they feel and people will still buy. Any remotely plausible reason for the increase and at least it looks ok on paper...

Though the prices aren't crazy high still... compared to the X1950XTX or 7800GTX512... Or the 8800GTX. Then again, how much are they asking for a HD5970? :p 600-680$ on Newegg... That is crazy.

USA is currently doing better than Italy, Spain, France, Germany, and UK. I wouldn't worry about economic collapse until Britain falls apart.

No kidding, if you can sell everything you can make... Why not try to get more. Its not like they are putting out at 5870 super version that is an overclocked 4890 or some other similar fraud.

Then why we got DOLLAR half of price of EURO ?
Because EUROPE doesn't allow ILLEGALS in their country, they are hunting them down, wiseversa in the USA: here we got 50 MILLION ILLEGALS and that's why we have no jobs because that"SMALL BUSINESSES" don't wanna take AMERICAN CITIZEN anymore but bad thing will happen next year when OBAMA will give them CITIZENSHIP, then you gona see how GM and BOEING and anothers will kick out most their workers and replace by them, that's why GM was BAILOUT, to save jobs for NEW CITIZENS and Democrats will have on election +50 MLN votes.
USA became COMMUNIST country.

Unfortunately you are pretty much correct, especially since PC games are playing more and more like console games, eg, Modern Warfare 2. Only reason to buy on PC is if you dont have a console. I dont, so I did buy for PC and liked the game but was disappointed in the consolization of it.

So don't spend $1400 on a system?

Your $500 computer that you use at home or for school can be coverted into a better gaming machine than a PS3 or X360 for less than the price of a console. I only compare the price of a video card as the cost of entry into gaming, since I'm going to have a computer anyway.

Then why we got DOLLAR half of price of EURO ?

Because the Euro is artificially inflated, much like the Yuan. Either the US needs to move to fixing the dollar's value, or we need to pressure the EU into playing on the level.

Someone with 'rifle' in his nick posts a truly incoherent, lunatic fringe rant about euro vs illegal immigrants and Commie USA?

What a surprise.

Is this even worth mentioning? If you have the money for a top tier card why the hell would you care about a $10 price increase?
