AMD Radeon HD7730M

Hey guys,

Back with yet another question.

I had Windows 8 installed on my computer and to its credit, it worked well, just I did not like it. As a result, I went back to my Windows 7 Professional, 64-Bit. All works well until the graphics cards come into play. Let me explain.

I have an Intel HD Graphics 4000 card which is used for the basic stuff. I also have a Radeon HD7730M which should kick in when push comes to shove, see picture. In Windows 8 it was no problem - I simply opened AMD Catalyst Control Center by right-clicking on my desktop and choosing "Configure Switchable Graphics". Now that I have Windows 7 though, that option is no longer there so it'd seem as though I am running just off my Intel card, even in games, which results in massive frame drops.

Before you ask, I updated all the drivers from the Dell website and still nothing. I even tried to install the Catalyst Drivers from here but it says "not compatible" since I'm sure it's picking up the Intel card.

I would have no problem running off my AMD card completely, if that's possible. If not, how do I successfully install the Catalyst Drivers for my ATI Radeon HD 7730M card and therefore enable Switchable graphics?

Thanks guys,
Julien

Try uninstalling and reinstalling CCC, the drivers come with the CCC itself and reinstalling should do it

The easiest thing to do is just disable switchable graphics and just set the programs you want to run on the dgpu (only have to do this once and you are set--this is high performance mode) and always use the igp unless running a selected program. AMD switchable graphics have major driver problems.

I also recommend this because AMD (and nvidia's optimus) stupidly activate the dgpu for mundane tasks that really don't require it (like browsing the internet-- youtube on chrome), resulting in poor battery life compared to integrated graphics only.

The new AMD drivers have problems on the verification check, download and try from 3d guru (see anandtech news page about new mobile drivers)

Hey guys,

I did my homework and read somewhere that the switchable graphics only work with the original driver for Windows 7. With nothing to lose, I tried it. Ironically enough, everything is fine now.

Just for record's sake, and in case someone else has the same problem, I downloaded the 8.951.0.0, A00 for my computer off the Dell website.

Thanks again guys,
