just picked up an alienware aurora R4 with a 4960x extreme cpu and a radeon 8990. did a clean install of windows 10 and got to test the GPU through some gaming and benchmarks. I know the 8990 is two gpus crossfired into one card, and along with that comes lack of compatibility with alot of games. what is your opinion on this card? and is it still worth it to keep. i play games like destiny 2, and bf4. let me know your opinion. i also have two 780tis lying around that i can throw in its place. or maybe just one of them. my monitor is a dell S2417DG 1440P @ 144hz.

any help is appreciated.

I did not know this card was a thing lol. That said, a 7990 can be a very good card. It may also still be very valuable to miners, though that may have changed since I checked recently. It should do quite well in BF4, that game does do well with CF I remember, especially in mantle mode. Hopefully that still holds true. As for destiny 2, I am not sure, I doubt that supports CF, but a single GPU on that card, basically a 7970, should do OK at reduced settings.

When CF scales, it should do better than either SLI kepler or single kepler, which is what the 780Ti's are. Single GPU vs Single GPU it will likely be more of a tossup, depends on games I suppose. Remember that the Tahiti cards have aged much better than Geforce GTX 700 series. I will let others chime in with benches.

Back to mining, it may still be quite good at that, or may be very valuable to certain miners, and might be worth selling. I cannot really get into how much it is worth though, as price checks are not allowed, and it will very anyways, but you may want to feel it out on the market place if you can use it to get a good single GPU card like the GTX 1060 6GB or higher.

I did a little looking on ebay, and those cards still go for a good bunch of cash. You could likely sell that and one of the 780Ti's and grab a GTX 1080.

Thanks for the quick reply. i took a look at ebay and saw prices in the $300+ and was very surprised and was very tempted to post it asap, but wanted to make sure i'm not missing anything.

i did play destiny 2 with this and lots of studdering and freezing/unfreezing. to make the game literally unplayable. one reason which makes me want to get rid of it.

I'm with Schmee. Gaming wise, it's going to start getting long in the tooth, but for mining, people are still buying them for absurd prices for mining. Sell them, and get a good gaming card like a 1080. The difference will be night and day since you have a GSync monitor.

Thanks! its on ebay and already at $350 with a few days left. def going to sell it and possibly invest in a 1080 ti or so. appreciate the reply! is a 1080ti overkill for 1440p at 165hz?
