AMD is set to release the dual-gpu monster 7990 this month and chiphell has some shots of what is thought to be the 7990, the best looking reference card I have ever seen.

:eek::thumbsup:

Since this is an obvious fake taken from someone's 3DSMax project, we're closing this up. In the future you guys should probably stop listening to Chiphell.

When is the 78XX series coming out? They should work on getting THOSE GPUs out instead of this incredibly niche product.

I wonder how fast these will sell out. The big bitcoin miners seem to think it'll be amazing both for mhash/dollar and mhash/watt, if it's priced for under $900.

Indeed, not a fan of lights but this looks cool. Surprised to see only one fan.

The mesh screen over the fan will build up dust over time and degrade cooling performance, did they think that through? Sure it looks cool but I've always been a function-over-form guy. Based on how cool the 7900 series is running at stock speeds, one fan doesn't surprise me.

Edit - For reference, 5000 Chinese yuan = 793.62 US dollars

I'm guessing a msrp of $1100-$1200. Amd sells 7970 for $550-$600 and you better believe they want $550-$600 for each 7970. There will be no price breaks. Period. Until competition arrives from nvidia expect amd to milk you for every red cent.
Nice card. Seems a little overkill for the games available today and anything that will be released for the next year but the epeen factor is off the charts.

404, Board shots not found.

This is what I was thinking too...

Although the card does look nice, not sure how I feel about the red backlight. Sleek design though, wonder if board partners will change anything up or keep it the same?

Great lookin card...wonder when they'll hit the shelves & how fast they'll sell out. I doubt they'll be in the $1100 range.

Again? Really? I laugh every time you make one of these posts because you act like nvidia are charitable humanitarians when it comes to pricing.:D

Do you have to do this in EVERY new 7XXX release/rumour thread?!

When has a dual GPU card cost double the single card it is based on?

Stop whining about 7 series prices, we get it, you don't like the prices.

While I agree from a customer standpoint, it often makes sense from a business standpoint to release the high-end (and most profitable) cards before the mid-range cards. It's also good for PR if they can do a hard release of these cards and not have stock problems (because so few sell) than if they were to release a 7850 before they have a big stockpile of them.

It's not a whine it's my opinion. Sorry it doesn't fit into your ideas. Maybe every time you post I should call you out on the opinions you've stated. You are obviously okay with AMD pricing so from now on if you comment on amd pricing I'm going to quote you and say "why are you whining you obviously like amd pricing? Please stop posting in 79XX series threads".

It's nice looking, I'd pay 50.00 for a not working one with that little display stand , I don't have it anymore, but if I did I'd put it next to my Darth Maul statue.
Nerd stuff on display :)

Do you never clean your computer? Dust builds up regardless. Even fans need to be blown out from time to time.

As far as the mesh screen, I have a story to share. I bought a used 5850 from a guy. He had a pet bird in the same room as the card.
So, the problem was the metric assload of dust and dander the bird gave off became enmeshed in the actual fins of the reference cooler.

So, while the fan intake was free and unblocked (but the fan was dusty), the heatsink fins inside the shroud were encrusted.

I think it's very smart to have a screen that clogs up like this 7990, instead of allowing the fins to clog up. Because, once the fins clog up, it's like they are wearing a blanket and won't give off heat. Even if you have zero airflow, the heatsink fins are still compromised when they are clogged up. If the mesh screen of the 7990 gets clogged up, the fins will still be free to radiate heat, even with zero airflow. Plus, think how easy it is to wipe down the mesh screen? To unclog the fins of the heatsink, you have to do a teardown to remove the reference cooler, then separate the baseplate from the shroud, then separate the heatsink from the shroud, then carefully pick out the feathers and dust from between the heatsink fins. The mesh is a nice touch.

What else do you call it? You come into EVERY 7 series thread and express your displeasure about the pricing. We heard you the first couple of times in the 7970 release thread, there's no need to do it in every 7 series release thread is there? I can understand you expressing your opinion when the 7970 was released but you doing it in every 7 series release thread is just ridiculous. And on top of that you made a sensationalistic claim that the 7990 would cost double a 7970, when IIRC a dual GPU card has never cost double the single card it is based on.

What is your goal in complaining in every thread? Is it your way of venting? Do you think AMD is going to see your post and reduce prices? Do you think nV will see your post and release competition quicker? What is it?

Please do quote me if I ever complain about the prices, I treat others as I expect to be treated. And you better be in every nV 6XX series thread complaining about the prices too. I and others as well will remind you I'm sure.

I'm sure that's the point. Much easier to clean the mesh than the fan blades.

I don't know about US MRSP, but in India,

6990 costs twice of a 6970, exactly. A 6990 currently costs around $850-900 or so, whereas a 6970 is half of it (in India).

A 5970 costed about $700 back in the day when the 5850 was around $300+.

A 7970 costs around $800 and a 7950 is expected around $650, so I wouldn't be surprised if in India the pricing is $1400-1500 or so.

And I am not talking of MRP in India, but the street price, MRP is even higher.

And even in USA, the 6990 was released around $700-800. The 6950 costed around $300 or so and 6970 around $350-400 or so.

The 6990 was somewhere btw a 6970 and 6950 , x2.

So it was more than double of a single 6950 and close to what 2 6970s would cost.

Same was the case with 5850 and 5970 and then 4870 and 4870x2.

the mesh looks to be easily removable for cleaning, which for any pc should be at regular intervals.

This has to be the best looking reference card ever, Kind of reminds me of Dead Space ie. Isaac's suit. No doubt it will be out of the realm for most though

I stand corrected about the doubling, but IMO there's no way AMD will price a 7990 at 1100-1200 as someone claimed. The 6990 and 5970 cost that much because they were at the top in performance when they were released, and so commanded a premium relative to the single cards. Price the 7990 at double a 7970 and AMD will take a lot of flak for it, and rightly so.
