I was never interested in AMD so i know nothing about them
now i have some quiestions:

-In what way are the models named?, i mean
3000+
3200+
are these related somehow to the speed?
whats with the Venice and stuff like that?

-i can install Windows XP PRO 32 BIT on AMD 64 BIT right? just to be sure

Thanks...

1. Yes, the higher the number, the faster it performs.

2. The Venice core is the newest updated core of the Athlon64 line. It has an updated memory controller and such, and is what I would go with if building a new system

3. You can install Windows XP Pro or Windows 64 with this CPU and you will get great performance from both OS's.

Depends on what you're using them for.

For all general applications (Office etc) except video encoding, the number is like the GHz speed of an intel P4 -- 3200+ = 3.2 GHz. For video encoding the P4 is better so a 3200+ is noticeably slower than a P4 3.2 GHz.

For games it's the other way around. A 3000+ is faster than a P4 3.2 GHz and a 3500+ is faster than a P4 3.8 GHz in many games (and 3.6 GHz in the rest).

So if your main "need for speed" is games, you want AMD.

AMD processors run 32-bit windows just like the P4. Their 64 bit support is an extra feature, just like on a few newer intel P4s that copied the 64 support from AMD.

You asked what's with Venice?

That's the name of the core. AMD makes revisions with their CPUs all the time, so while they only call it the 3500+, there is a NewCastle, ClawHammer, Winchester, & Venice all made for that 3500+ CPU name.

The Venice is the lastest & best revision, though in the higher end chips, there is the even better San Diego core.
