I know we're still waiting on dual's to arrive... but... there's always something better around the corner!

Scroll down, two systems by Utron up and running QUAD Athlon processors.

Utron 2 x 2U Quad 1.1GHz AMD Athlon processor-based server running EnFuzion from TurboLinux on TurboLinux
Utron 2U Quad 1.1GHz AMD Athlon processor-based server running a Zeus Web server from Zeus on SuSE 7.0

Suuhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhweeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet! Finally some competition for Intel in the Server Farms!

So, Question of the day: When's anandtech gonna get to test one of these? Or, when are these going to be available period?

How the hell did they get quad boards running?🙂 Damn someone at VIA will be getting the boot soon if they don't get their AMD dually out by spring. 😛

I still wonder why they haven't been released, even back in SLOT-A, the Alpha EV6 Bus is already Multi-Processor ready. So, it seemed as though they'd just need to modify it for Athlons. Can't imagine why that has taken so long... it's not a "build from the ground up" task.

I imagine there are some complications -- it's been forever. And it's always a few months off...

But, this is the first I have heard of Quad Processor Athlons in operation. Supposedly the Alpha EV6 Bus is much more efficient than the PII/PIII/Xeon systems. It's supposed to scale much better due to less contingency for the bus between processors. So, a Multiprocessor Athlon system could have cleaned up on intel... but... it's all been marketing thus far and nothing to benchmark. So, we'll have to CONTINUE to wait and see.
