AMD Price Drops?

Any idea when AMD price drops will start occuring now that Intel is starting to budget price its cpus?

i think they will when the other fab is really opened, because right now they make dual cores from same wafers as the regular, with not as many fabs as intel they cant effectively cut costs because they have less chips that they can make u know?

so im guessing another year or two then amd will get back to the price killers they used to be

It's basically AMD's 2 fabs (with one that just opened) vs Intels 8+ fabs.

Not to mention about 4 of Intel's fabs already use 300mm wafers.

That's where the problem will come in. If Conroe holds up to be a true performer then who would want to buy an FX processor for 3x the cost?
Or if later on down the road, AMD made compareable AM2 chips to compete with the Conroe...Do you think they can price them the same as Conroe? It would be quite hard to do considering the situation AMD would be in.

Some where, Some how, Amd will have to cut corners to keep gaining market share...Where? No one knows yet.

I don't think AMD has any price cuts planned officially. There have been rumors that s939 prices will be kept high to make sure that AM2 parts sell. However, what n19htmare says is accurate; AMD will be forced to drop AM2 prices in order to stay competative with Conroe if Conroe does indeed blow AM2 away. I assume that s939 prices will drop with AM2 prices in the event that AM2 is devalued by Conroe.

Actually, there was an office price jump on April 10. AFAIK, AMD is not planning any price drop for 939, even when AM2 is released.

I got this from Dailytech and it seems that they will have new pricing on release date if I read that correctly. maybe it will be a nice surprise. At least on can hope. 😉
The new Energy Efficient Processor roadmap and pricing looks interesting.
