Hi All,
If I'm not mistaken I heard AMD price cut's were suppose to take effect today. I'm want to buy a amd cpu, with the the cut's on the Pent IV. I'm not sure amd is the way to go, unless they follow intel's lead and cut their prices.

I was reading one of threads, again someone made mention of AMD cutting their prices. I have yet to see the reductions take effect. I'm talking about the xp's and Bartons, not the A64

I Expected prices to stay inline maybe a little better than Intel's P4 speed numbered equivilent. But since the Opterons are selling so well they may wait a little longer on the price cuts. Why reduce the price when you cant keep up with the demand.

Yup AMD's demand on the chips is much higher than expected.

Also the Opteron 3400+ is released today if not very soon

If you wait a little longer I have word that the 3600+/3700+ chips are being made in quantity. I would anticipate a December launch of the 3600/3700 inline with an Intel announcement of the P4EE launch. AMD may want to jump ahead 2 speed grades before the end of the year.

does anyone know what the end of the line is for the Barton chips? Will there be a 3400 or higher?

I am unemployed and tight on funds and trying to get from my 1800xp to the upper 2000s or higher without totally having to change platforms.

If they are going past 3200, I might be happy with a cheap 2700 or so for now knowing I can make another good CPU jump next year for cheap. I dont want to buy too high and then have it not be worth upgrading.

Last I heard there will be a barton 3400 and 3600. Before moving to 754 pin 32 bit cores. Sorry I didnt ask when they would be available. If your on a budget I would go with the AMD 2500 barton core and overclock to 3200 or more. The little more you will get from a 3400 or 3600+ shouldnt be enough for you to wait.
