AMD Price Cut

How long before the price cuts AMD announced a couple of days ago are seen in the market? Do the retailers get any credit on existing inventory?

I want to spend my money!

On 4/23/03, THG linked to a DigiTimes article. Here is THG's summary

Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) on April 22 announced a massive price cut on its desktop-use Athlon XP processor line along with its launch of new 64-bit K8-core Opteron processors. The discounts ranged from as high as 44.7% to 14.1%.

Is this price cut, announced on 4/23/03 already in the channel?

I've been too busy to watch prices closely (so my dates may be off a bit), but I do remember them being slashed online about 2-3 weeks ago. That occured something like 2-3 days after the top P4 chip price was cut to $380 levels online. It looked silly for the 3.06 GHz P4 to be priced much less than the 3000+ Barton. But soon the Barton was cut down to the $320 range, significantly below the P4 again. So my bet is that AMD cut them back then, and waited until now to announce the cuts. That is quite typical for the way AMD cuts prices (stockholders see high prices, customers see low prices). There may be a bit more settleing, but probably not much.

Was that previous price cut for the Barton chips only? The article at DigiTimes shows the 2000+ thru 2600+. Those are not Bartons, right?
