😕

As a couple people mentioned earlier it looks to only be engineering samples that the mobo makers had earlier and didn't know the name of the cpu's. You people can stop your whining. At least for now.... :\

Which makes it all the more funny, that a friend of mine and his wife, switched from a Q6600 and a Q8200, to AMD Phenom II X4 quad-cores.

I wasn't sure how long the Phenom II X4 was going to last me when i got it, but it performs well enough that i don't feel like Sandy Bridge is a reasonable upgrade at it's current price point. Pleasantly surprised.

That being said, i'm not real sure where theses X8's are supposed to fit in. Didn't a couple of the X4's outperform FX?

i was attempting to make people aware of the connection, i know of at least 4 users on your forums admin that know who i am on GS.
and i know theres others out there who have stumbled upon me before. and yeah i know theres alot of immitaters or folks who mis-associate themselves with my unique name.
google me, about 100% of the time its me

Phenom II has higher IPC, outside of a few things like Photoshop where FX really improved over Phenom II, Phenom II is faster than FX. Phenom II X4 walks all over the FX 4100, it's 3.6Ghz and frequently looses to a 3.0Ghz Phenom II. The FX 6100 looses to Phenom II X6 in the same way, FX 8150 is only faster than Phenom II X6 due to having 2 additional cores and higher clock speeds.

If these new Phenom II X6/X8 processors based on Bulldozer are true, they'll be slower than Athlon II at most tasks, you just get more cores for the very limited number of applications that can use them or improved multitasking.

mmm...they are cutting some cache off...this may decrease the latency, thus increasing the ipc....( sure, it would still suck)

is this the new B3, or just low binned due glofo yields?

So guys any official confirmation yet or is this just speculation because I would like one of these on the cheap and the windows 8 fix.

I would be curious to see how an $82 BD athlon compares with a sb (or ib) pentium.

Umm...prolly half of the performance of the FX-8150 for an 8-core? I think it's going to be even worse since Athlon BDs are very unlikely to be 8-core SKUs.

Welcome to anandtech. The land where Sandy Bridge might as well be the second coming of christ and ....AMD? Whats that?

They make great video cards, I know that. And once upon a time, a long long time ago, they used to make [according to myths] top of the line CPU's aswell that did not suck. Of course judging by AMD's current flagship CPU [FX] it does seem like a fairy tale that at one time in the distant past they made good CPUs. 🙁

probably alot better than SB pentium's or celerons. both of them have basically nothing on the chip. they have problems competing with core 2 duo's now n again XD
