Newegg reviews are boggling my mind. *ONE* guy out there posted about a high end ater cooling system getting a world record 3.5 ghz unstable and this was tremendous news to everyone. Two days later every Tom, Dick and Harry buying one from newegg is benchmarking at 3.5 on air and running 3.2. Heck, those guys probably don't even HAVE the CPUs in hand yet, considering they only became available for purchase Monday -- hence this hot deal, you can actually buy them.

My take on the egg reviews is those guys are so full of crap their eyes are about to shoot out of their heads like bullets.

Also be careful with the 780X boards as well. Make sure it supports the 125w processors or you'll be sorry.

From AT's B3 Phenom Review:

We aimed for 3.0GHz and while we could get into Windows and run some benchmarks, we couldn't get it 100% stable. In our opinion it's highly unlikely we'll see AMD release a 3.0GHz Phenom on 65nm this year. It may be possible on 45nm but it's still too early to tell if that'll be this year or not.

If you're expecting a heavy OC or already have a fast X2, you might want to see more results before jumping on these. Still, pretty good option and pricepoint for AM2+ socket owners looking for a quad option.

I haven't built an Intel system in years, but I could not bring myself to buy one of these. The bang per buck Intel offers at this price range annihilates AMD's offerings. Granted if you already have everything and just want the CPU upgrade this becomes competetive with Intel's price, versus having to add the price of a motherboard.

AMD still has a competetive product in the low-end, but if I'm spendin ~$250, I'm going Intel right now...and I wish I had the $$ to do so.

Just needs to come down in price IMO and its a good CPU....

I'm just not paying $243 for a Phenom 9850 when I can get a Q6600 for less. <$200 and then its a definite option.

I guess I am waiting for ~2.6ghz and 65W. That basically means I am waiting until Q4 this year... sigh. At least the X2's are still a pretty decent value...

Wonder if it'll hit ~$200ish before the Intel price cuts come in less than a week. If we're seeing low $200s for Q6600s at etailers and under $200 retail loss leaders what's to say we won't be seeing under $200 for Q6600s next month?

Otherwise I agree. 15% discount to an equivalent clock Intel quad and it's a great value. Higher price? I'll take a pass.
