True, the X800 and 6800GT seems to be the pinnacle of AGP technology; however, with the PCI-E technology coming out, it would probably be best to get this while in its infancy, and when new graphics cards come out, just upgrade.

Long story short, here's my dilemma:
Building a new computer to last me years with the newest technology. Wanting to build up on PCI-E, it seems that only Intel made the chipsets for it. But I wanted the AMD64 FX-53. I just found out that they made a motherboard for the AMD64 with PCI-E capability called the SiS756.

Anybody knows if this is the way to go, or if an AMD 939 Socket PCI-E is even available on the market (since I cannot find one)?

Trying so hard to make the best after being stuck with a Compaq for 4 years...

Funny, that is also why I came to this forum.

Yes, SiS does have a chipset for our needs. However, no motherboard comapies currently produce motherboards with this chipset. And, furthermore, I do not know of any that have expected ship dates for these new amd pci-e motherboards. Anyone know when any motherboard company will release any type of amd pci-e motherboard?

I am waiting for that, and, similarily, the PCI-e video cards. Well, not just the pci-e x800, but the agp version too. There are none to be found....anywhere!! CompUSA pushed back their shippment date to September 20th!! And that is for the AGP version! So, who the heck knows if we will even see PCI-e cards from ATI before December.

Well, here is what I decided to do. ATI doesnt even have their x800 AGP card out yet, so I will just lay low until that ships. By then we should hear more about PCI-e releases. I am really looking forward to PCI-e, but if it doesn't release by the end of September, then I am going with AGP.

I am not even looking at Athlon 64 till I catch wind of NF4. NF4 is definatly looking to be the next best thing. I mean look at what they pulled off with the NF3-250, from what I have heard so far we may see a soundstorm 2 and we will keep the raid functions of nf3-250 and the gigabit ethernet, possibly doubling it, and will have pci-E support. Though this has so far been all stipulation I woudl say everything but the soudnstorm 2 is very very reasonable.
