" AMD (NASDAQ: AMD) today announced a collaboration with Oculus and Dell to equip Oculus Ready PCs with AMD Radeon™ GPUs, starting at $999USD. The powerful PCs are designed to deliver stunning gaming performance and enable spectacular VR experiences for consumers around the world by leveraging AMD VR leadership with LiquidVR™ and Graphics Core Next architecture."

Finally some positive news in between all the negative news about AMD. I hope AMD's Zen and GCN2 launch on time in 2016 and finally provide us with competition in the high end PC space.

Does Nvidia/AMD look like they have a lead in VR or is it way too early to tell?

AMD has an edge in fluidity due to better pre-emption. Whether that will be the case when the retail mass market(ish) VR headsets show up in quantity is not a certainty.

I suppose it's best to wait until the time comes to make a decision.

I find it hard to get excited about VR: the industy has yet to produce a 3d monitor that does not give me a headache. Something as relatively simple as 4K is still not mainstream.

Sorry to be Captain Comedown.

It's understandable after many false dawns for VR tech. I think they will finally get it right this time though... but not everyone is going to like it. It will be a matter of getting enough people to like it, which is what I'm worried about.

Did anyone say it was anything special or different from your link? Gotta jump in and diminish anything that might possibly be construed as positive for AMD though right? :| Keep up the good work.

Thread should have gone into the AMD Sub section. That's what the echo chamber portions are for.

There is nothing to be sorry about as there is a lot of truth to what you say. I tried Oculus Rift in January 2015 and I found it vomit inducing after a while. In the current state it was in for that particular unit I tested, I wouldn't have paid $1 for it. I hope the technology improves in the next 2-3 years because when I didn't feel sickness, the experience was far more immersive than traditional 3D gaming. Still, the headset was very large, and while light, I can't see myself wearing it for 4-5 hours at a time. Heck, I can't even bear to wear glasses because I hate the feeling of something on my face. Even downhill ski without goggles unless there is crazy snow/wind that irritates the retinas. :awe:

VR hype wont go anywhere. It will stay a very small niche.

Depends on how well VR is executed and at what price points it sells over time. It might not be a big hit in the first 2-3 years but in 10 years? Compared to 3D movies, VR gaming is night and day. There is no comparison whatsoever to the best 3D movie. With VR, everything is 3D, not just some parts of the scene/objects so you feel like you are 'inside' the environment. For example if you are taking a roller-coaster, it actually feels like you are falling down to the ground and while it can't recreate the real feeling, it makes you feel a lot more like you are actually there.

When you say it's lightweight, how lightweight are we talking? Does it feel like you have a bicycle helmet/motor bike helmet/Ski mask? How long did you have it on for?

I'm not kidding :awe:

But yes, I really am retarded...it's just as important as letting people know you're blind or deaf.

I can't wait to give one a try, but I don't want to be put off by trying a dev kit. I'm going to wait for the final product, but I really really want to try it out.
