AMD or Intel? (Thinkpad X131e)

I'm looking for a nice portable laptop to take away on trips, and for light use in bed etc. The Thinkpad X131e looks really nice, but I'm undecided about what processor to get. The E2-1800 is obviously just a souped up netbook chip, but the i3-2367M is seriously gimped to get it down to 17W (1.4GHz clockspeed?!). Could anyone give me some idea on how the two compare, performance wise and battery life wise?

I had the E350 in my x120e netbook, and it was horribly slow even for basic web browsing even after upgrading to SSD and 8GB RAM, it was pretty bad. The E2-1800 is basically the next bump up from the E350.

The i3 2367M should be significantly faster than the E2-1800. Quick search found this: http://compare-processors.com/amd-e2-1800-vs-intel-core-i3-2367m/5270/

The i3 seems to do a lot better despite its base clock speed being lower. Also it has 3MB L3 cache.

the i3 should stomp all over the e-1800 and battery life shouldn't be that different between the two(don't know for sure). I assume the price difference is rather large though

Even at 1.4GHz Sandy will run circles around Brazos. The only thing Brazos has going for it is the GPU, and even that is questionable as the 2367 has HD3000...

My Thinkpad is perfectly usable even at 800MHz and at max. powersaving...

(Although I wound up totally discarding it, because I picked up a C-60 based refurbished netbook for £100 instead. Can't turn down a bargain! )

Those two chips should not be anywhere near the same price class. If they are then AMD should be screaming to high heaven and I would expect another billion dollar ruling against intel...

Even the cheapest 2012 pentium ULV chip is priced at least $50 above (and more than 100% higher than!) the E2-1800. And yet you see all these pentium notebooks selling for far less than the cheaper AMD notebooks. It is a source of endless fascination...

I've found that my Pentium B970 laptop (Asus X401A) runs at 800Mhz on battery, seemingly regardless of what I set the Asus power-management software to run at. Compared to my Acer Aspire One 722 with C-60 and and SSD, the experience is largely the same, when on battery. Battery life is comparable too. In fact, when on Skype, battery life is better on the B970, as the Battery life on the C-60 is shorter due to the CPU turboing all the time to 1.33Ghz.

But for the price (I paid $202 + tax for my C-60, and $300 + tax for my B970), the C-60 is a potent little computer. It plays online 1080P video pretty flawlessly. In fact, it does seem to play video and stuff better than the B970 does.

intel will be a lot faster.

Now I have the x120e with the e350 and it was fine for my needs, for me atleast i was going to be multitasking much on a 11.6" screen so the speed was adequate. I even used it as a desktop for a while with a 1080p screen and external keyboard and it was fine for web browsing.

IDK what the icore model will cost but it might be worth looking into a used x200 at that point, i think that would be a lot nicer
