AMD or INTEL? The age old question

Once INTEL releases this "Prescott" cpu, what do you think is most likely going to happen? will AMD drop its prices to compete? What exactly is "Prescott"? i've heard a lot of hype about it, but can someone who knows tell me the difference between a prescott cpu and a current P4?
 
according to geek.com ('cause i don't keep tabs) the prescott hast 1Mb cache and is produced on a 90nm process
 
Intel may drop the 2.6c and make the 2.8c the slowest available cpu. Watch for price cuts around Feb 6th.

No, Intel isn't dropping prices on processors below 2.6 (or 2.8, one of the 2).
 
My guess is there will be little movement of the 2.4 and 2.6c and they will pile up in the 145-165 range, but for the most part I would expect Intel to announce these chips are done....this will be far too many variations then Intel normally runs....That case soemtimes has a funny reactions as chips may actually climb in price as stock dwindles but demand is still high for the ultra highly overclockable 2.4ghz and 2.6ghz......
 
The prescott changes over northwood are:
.09 process
1MB of L2, and 24kb of L1 (up from 512k, and 16k)
Ht improvements
SSE3
Strained silicon technology
2 additional stages on the pipeline (up to 22 from 20, this will marginally reduce IPC)


This CPU will scale up to around 4ghz at its peak, according to Intel
 
Remember ppl how long HT was actually in the cpus prior to us being able to use them.....The rumor is hT was in the frst northwood chips dating back 2 plus years....

Rumors have been floating the prescott team has an easter egg themselves...It may prove to be an application like 64bit but like hT may be hardware disabled until later....Whether this is true is anyones guess, but I bet a lot of things will be clear here shortly....


Future friendly??? Who knows.....I haven't seen the 64bit OS for the masses in microsoft and I bet when there is a 100% non beta to be purchased by the masses INtel will not be too far behind in releasing their 64 bit cpu....
 
if you ask me i think the battle is just as close as it's ever been
both have highly competitive processors
but i still think intel will sell more just cause of the name..

this year year is gonna be interesting
