AMD or Intel die hard fanboy

I go for best price point, bang for buck, for full system cost.
AMD still wins in that category for myself, even though I would prefer a C2D definatley. The boards just seem much to expensive for the features I expect. I can get the same and MORE in an AMD board for 180$ whereas the same set of features for C2D would take me out 250ish (CDN dollars)
We will see how teh front looks with Allendale and when i want to purchase ~5months

I'm a fan of a good processor that has a good chipset behind it.
I've always loved AMD, but i wouldn't call myself a fanboy because I still reccomend intel chips and what not to friends over certain AMD chips.
But with the release of C2D I love intel now for this reason: THey forced my favorite chip maker to drop price 40 - 60% 😛
But 2 years ago if you asked I would have said I favored Transmeta.

I don't have a lot of money to spend on tech gear so I usually buy what's cheapest if I'm only looking at minor performance variances. I have resisted the urge for an E6300 for quite some time. Upgrade path isn't important to me because whenever I'm ready for an upgrade, I do a full system overhaul. Have never 'just upgraded the CPU'. So all the talk about, "Intel always wants you to buy a new motherboard to get their new CPUs" doesn't bother me.
Hell, I'm typing this on an Athlon64 2800+ (@2.2GHz, Clawhammer, 130nm) - when I bought it, it was the best available deal. With a decent GPU (7600GS), it does most of my stuff at respectable speed. If I feel like checking out ultra-high graphics, I do so at a friend's place.
My next upgrade might be a C2D setup after the price cuts later this year. Hell, Intel plans on selling Q6600s in the $500 range later this year. I can only imagine how great that would be for the E4000/E6000s.

I'm not a fanboy of either, I go with the best bang for the buck at the time. The X2 was dominent when it competed with Pentium-d's, now the core 2 duo is the best of the bunch.
I have been an AMD fan since the K6III 450 processor that I got to replace my Pentium 133. While I freely acknowledge that the current C2D stuff is faster, I think that Intel has been operating as a defacto monopoly for too long using anti-competetive practices to keep a stranglehold. It is too important to unseat these 500 pound gorrillas, so I go with AMD. I have only one vote in the democracy of the marketplace, and that is with my wallet, so I vote my conscience.
As long as the differences between the alternatives are minimal, I will stick with AMD. In every-day real world applications, the differences are still pretty nominal between AMD and Intel processors. In most cases right now, you will find the Intel C2D processor is superior while in a few others the AMD X2 is better. The pendulum has swung to Intel, but not incredibly far.

Hmmm... I still use socket 939. I wish I could find cheap DDR memory. 🙁

I heavily lean AMD, and all things being equal (which they never are) I'd pick AMD over Intel in general. My last 7 builds have all been AMD. That said, C2D is a fine CPU, and I've not only recommended it, but wouldn't hesitate to use one in a new build if I had any $$$ laying around. Anyone who limits themselves to one or the other is simply being foolish, naive, or both.
