Yes, I would get one of those...perhaps if you gave at least SOME info..people could actualy answer your question..

What are you using the PC for, do you plan on overclocking etc. etc.

Well the Opteron tends to overclock better on slightly lower voltages, so if you are going to OC, I would choose the opty. Not that my 4200+ @2.618ghz is anything to sneeze at.

Nope, it was just as easy as any other board. There are a lot more tweaks available on the DFI board if you want to use them, but I didn't bother, and everything is running good.

If you plan on overclocking SUBSTANTIALLY, grab the Opteron.

If you plan on investing in a $100+ motherboard, grab the Opteron.

If you plan on overclocking mildly, grab the X2.

If you plan on buying a POS board, grab the X2.

If you have a board that can do 315mhz+ and the price difference over the X2 is less than 25% (to account for the probable maximum performance increases from extra cache and overclocking headroom) then consider grabbing the 165.

However, if you want cooler, want a 10 x multiplier (meaning overclocking is easier and even a moderate overclocking board can get it's max overclock) and cheaper, then grab the 3800+.

Ultimately, with newer gen parts coming out which will be faster than the current opterons there's little point paying for any significant price permium for the Opterons as really when it comes to the CPU being outdated - by the time an overclocked 3800+ is outdated and can't keep up so will the Opteron - say a 200mhz extra overclock and extra cache is unlikely to save it. X2s and Opterons will get outdated together as a generation eg say when quad-core CPUS become mainstream and software there to take advantage of it.

Amen

Also if you plan on undervolting and keeping the stock speed then grab the Opteron.

Hahaha.

Actually, I would also recommend trying the search function. That way one of the other 2^32 threads on the subject can divulge its wisdom upon you.
