hi i was woundering if the opteron 146 socket 940 is worth the effort. meaning getting new mobo, will i need registured ram? i made a dumb move, and i bid on this cpu and won. I didnt think the screen shot showing 940 as a problem since when i first got my 146 939 showed as a 940 core. well got the cpu and is a 940 socket, but dont know if i should use it or sell it since all my boards are now 939 mobo's. thx

You will need registered ram and a new and expensive motherboard. I'd also guess that it's a 130nm chip, though I may be wrong with this.

Yeah, the 940 146s are all the older 130nm cores. And there aren't any good overclocker motherboards for 940 anyway.

Since you already have it though, you could try one of the old 940 consumer motherboards designed for FXs if you can still find one.
