AMD Open Sources "FireRays" part of GPUOpen used for fast Raytracing

This isn't aimed at gamers. This is for 3D modeling and animation software. Think 3DMax, C4D, Maya, etc... Even Blender. With GPUOpen these devs can take AMD's work, royalty free, incorporate it into their software, and call it their own. They don't even have to credit AMD.

now we just need 10x more powerful gpu's.

Or simply GPUs specialized in ray tracing instead of rasterization.

Here's a video of a single PowerVR GR6500 GPU (a mobile GPU, containing dedicated raytracing hardware) beating a 980 Ti by a factor of 5 in raytracing, whilst only consuming a tenth of the power (so 50x the perf/W).

Scale that up to a normal desktop GPU (instead of mobile GPU), and you will easily have a 10x speedup or more.
