AMD’s biggest Radeon Software release yet brings a plethora of new features and across the board performance improvements. The 16.12.1 Crimson ReLive Edition package is available for download now.

I like the "chill feature" at the end of the video.

I tried out the new drivers and the WattMan was quite fantastic! Only feature that I'd like to see added is proper fan control, meaning fan curves. If that is added then I can ditch Msi AB completely. (Running a R9 290) All-in-all a great update. :)

I haven't tried Chill out myself, but Hardware Unboxed's impression of it was interesting. Seemed pretty seamless, at least when they tried it in Overwatch.

GPU-Z reports that my speeds are at default after increasing GPU State 7 and Memory State 1 (both dynamic) in WattMan and hitting apply. What's wrong?

I have reported this to AMD already, but I noticed with the new drivers that when I have CF enabled in my RX480CF/6700k rig below, that the "Chill" feature does NOT appear in either Wattman tab for card 1 or card 2 when I have CF enabled. If I disable CF, both Wattman tabs have the Chill feature available to turn on.

HMMM????

Radeon Chill is not currently compatible with crossfire configurations and will not be displayed in the Radeon ReLive 16.12.1 interface.

To take advantage of the chill feature do you need to install the full driver package?
Also there is a newer bios for my 280x does it have an option to update that too?

Thanks

Interestingly I wonder if this is going to be disabled during benchmark reviews?

Reason being, it will definitely decrease average framerates, while simultaneously decreasing power consumption. I guess a reviewer will either have to have it on for the entire review, which will lower average framerates but lower power consumption. Or, have it turned off for the entire review, which will raise average framerates but also raise power consumption.

My guess - they will use a minimum framerate of something like 40 or 60, and keep it enabled the entire time. That being said, some games that are ported from consoles (and some older games) use a framerate cap of 30. That will mean CHILL will never get enabled for them.

I had to roll back. It breaks Afterburner, and it's own Watt/overdrive crap doesn't work and just crashes over and over no matter how many times you clean install. SMH. 290x.

It messed my afterburner up also, but i was running version 4.2.0. I downloaded 4.3.0 and afterburner works fine now. I have 290x also.

Went back to 16.11.5 due to CF. Please fix 16.12.1 for CF AMD! I realize CF is small percent of the overall mix but Raja put in in the spotlight.

Did this update make some of your 480s hotter than before? I had to manually downclock and undervolt the card but its still 89 C. Before it was around 83-4 normally. Now I get a lot of 1 sec freezes when gaming.

I didn't even check temps on my CF setup. I had problems getting to the Chill feature then read that there were problems with CF setups so I rolled back. CF works well with 16.11.5 so I will wait to see if the new features are supported in CF.

CF is such a small part of the overall mix, I suspect RTG wanted to get this release out for single users first.

A_Skywalker, were you using 16.11.5 when it ran at 83-84C?

What model of 480 are you running?

Did you enable the Chill feature?

Finally, did you report these problems to AMD?

Is WattMan unusable for anyone else? I have the game-specific profile for Watch Dogs open on my second monitor, and when I launch the game, the Radeon Settings control panel just completely seizes up and becomes unresponsive. Even when I exit back out of the game, the control panel remains frozen most of the time, save for a few moments when it will actually let me click on something.

Edit: even without launching any games, and trying to modify the global WattMan settings, it still freezes up. It has also now crashed completely a couple of times ("Radeon Settings: Host Application has stopped working"). Blagh.

I still can't get this driver to work correctly, and no Wattman doesn't work. Does what Dankk sees. Mostly I just get black screens. Pushed back to Octobers release until they hash out the bugs.

17.1 haven't been released yet. Those are 16.12.2 with WHQL and few fixes.

leaving the radeon settings window open can eat processor time. based on the cpu time in task manager it was averaging ~10% cpu time over a several day period.
