MSRP for the 1080 is only $50 more than the 980 was at launch and IMHO has a lot more to offer. Add in the rumored boost/OC ability and it should be a GREAT card, along with the 1070, for anyone not rocking 980Tis already.

MSRP on the non-FE cards, of course. I would hope the 1080 will be a better card than the 980, as that one was a particularly poorly positioned SKU. It was massively undercut by the 970, and really only got to command its price premium as the top card for 6 months before the Titan X shipped. Worse, in less than 9 months the 980 Ti came out with much higher performance and a barely higher price.

The 1080 should last much long. Given what nVidia is predicting about P100 availability in OEM systems, it seems extremely unlikely we'll see even a Titan product this year. Titan in spring '17 and a new Ti summer '17 seems reasonable, but that still gives the 1080 a year at the top. It's hard to expect more than that, really.

well we will never really know eh if a full uncut titan x chip was on the hand of aibs im pretty sure 980ti would have been smoked without even any special bios or witchcraft or or or...
I thought the Titan X was fully unlocked as far as gaming relevant resources goes. It has a whopping 9% more shaders for 350$ extra.

Are you serious? I of course expect this. This is the Nvidia model and it works. The 1070 will be as fast as 980ti that's where I'm currently at. I think it's ridiculous to think otherwise.
I'm not arguing against that. On the contrary, I do think that Nvidia will be able to launch the 1070 in sufficient volume. Not quite so sure about the 1080, but the price will probably keep demand in check for the first batch.

Totally agree.

I opted for the 970 when it launched because my 670 was killing me due to only 2GB of VRAM. It was a great improvement, and my 970 ended-up being a great OC'er on water (1550mhz core). The 980 didn't really bring much more to the table, for a considerable amount more $$, especially at launch.

This time around, I can see both the 1080 and 1070 fitting their respective segments. The 1080 will likely be appreciably better at higher resolutions due to the GDDRX memory, plus a decent amount more raw processing power vs. 1070. On the other hand, the 1070 will be a fantastic 1440P card...

A serious threat more then GTX 1070 to Polaris is GTX 980 TI. If Polaris is selling out at $300 ,which nears a R9 390X performance or a bit better ,however, right now GTX 980 Ti are starting to be sold under $3xx which will be better then Polaris value. Only games like Hitman and ATOS support AC and both of them are at broken state.

Show a place where a 980Ti is being sold under $300 please.

Its down to how high AMD can clock theirs imo.

We already know that this generation of cards didn't clock terribly well and both were using the same node, so we should have a relatively good idea of how well they'll compare. Unless AMD made some major overhauls to whatever was limited their clock speeds, I don't see them being anywhere close to Pascal. Even if Polaris does have the capacity to OC well, it's likely going to be limited by the 6-pin power connector while the 10*0 both have an 8-pin which means a lot more juice to play around with, and I imagine Nvidia will have no qualms using that extra headroom to hit the performance targets that they want.

Ebay. Even Titan X are now starting to sold under $400. When GTX 1070 hits and if the performance is seriously what Nvidia says then automatically GTX 980 Ti will be around $300 not more then that. Right now people are selling custom models of GTX 980 Ti around $410 and Reference at $350. Once GTX 1070 hits then GTX 980 Ti price will go down more , which will hurt Polaris a lot if the price is not set right. Keep in mind they are second hand cards.

My own country shops are selling GTX 980 Ti at RM 2000.Recent price was Rm3200. That is thing that AMD is not aiming to only sell card in America.

Check it out. Value of GTX 980 Ti has massively gone down.

There is a 980ti on there for $650 buy it now.

Do you have a link to an actually sold 980Ti yet?

Still just a list of 980Ti's that are far above the prices you listed. So you basically have now shown evidence that you're wrong.

There are no reference 980Tis there for $350 like you claimed....
