Hi Folks

I'm searching for an AMD notebook quite a long while and
I have now come to the conclusion, that there are 2 choices for
me - the

- ASUS L2400 with Mobile Athlon 1400+, 256MB, SIS730, 20GB, 14''
http://notebook.asuscom.de/serien/l2d/daten.html

could only find specs at our german ASUS site - no mention at Taiwan or US -> strange!!!

- SONY VAIO FX601 with 1,1G Mobile Duron and ATI M1 - same specs ...

No I have a question - is anyone here, that knows, whether is the new
0,13m AMD CPU part, because it is an AMD XP Mobile and AMD page says

"
: What is the level of performance offered by the mobile AMD Athlon XP processor?

A: The mobile AMD Athlon XP processor based on the ?Thoroughbred? core is designed to offer high performance across a wide array of applications, including digital media and office productivity. The mobile AMD Athlon XP processor will enable you to build a highly responsive system for office productivity, content creation and demanding multimedia applications?an ultimate computing experience.

It is a generell conclusion that all Athlon Mobile parts with the new Rating sheme are 0,13m parts???
Could that be? Because the old parts where A4 with original MHz settings as A4 1,2GHz -> now Athlon XP Mobile 1400+ (=1,2G)

Thanks for answers!

...

All I know is.. Asus has HORRIBLE support (if any), and support is VERY important when it comes to laptops. *I* wouldn't buy an Asus notebook, but then again, *I* won't buy an Asus motherboard either..

Get the Sony

their was a 1500xp model using 0.18 micron, but the asus sounds like a new model and the 1400 (1.2ghz) is likely to be the newer version. To behonest their is probably very little difference heat wise between them. The 0.18 version produced 25 watts of heat but has a larger surface area to interact with the heatsink, the 0.13 version would need to be around 1.2vcore to match the older model and I doubt they are at the moment.
