Enlight 7237 w/250w power supply has been running my o/c'ed T-Bird like a champ.

closed up the case, and looped UT in software mode @ 1280x1024 with all options enabled + distributed.net, CPU utilization @ 100%, of course. Ran it for 24 hours consecutive, no problemo at all, no crashes.

setup:

AMD T-Bird 1000 @ 1350, 12.5 * 108, 1.850v
MSI K7T Pro2a
SB Live Value
Diamond Supra Max
2x7200 RPM ATA66
50x CD-ROM
4424 CD-RW
winME
TNT2U w/Tennemax cooler

2x80mm case fans, kept chassis under 25C, the T-Bird was @ 42C after it was all done.

stable as could be. no power supply issues that I could tell. :)

Yes but knowing what everyone knows about how power hungry AMD chips get above 1000mhz, is it really worth risking running a power supply under 300w?

I hear what you're saying, but the point is...quality over quality

a 300w generic POS power supply may not do the job as well as a quality PSU, such as a sparkle or antec.

y'know what I mean, jellybean? <G>

Aopen 235watt here, although i'm not running a Gig+ T-bird socket A,
I am supposedly "breaking " the rules.

well i have a PC power& cooling 275Watt silencer PSU running my SCSI system along with my 1.2Ghz birdie (9x133Mhz). Very stable no problem at all. It all depends on the quality of the PSU. Many will run with a 250Watt PSU. ;)

Man this sucks. My KK266+Tbird850+old 235w ps won't turn on at all. I saw the cpu fan spin around a couple times but that's it.

My new case + 300w is coming friday so we'll see if it works then, but i'm not very hopeful at this point

Never had more than a 250w supply, that came with Computer Geeks $19.95 ATX mid tower case.
Never had any power supply problems.

Duron 750 at 1008Mhz (112x9), with GF2 GTS, SB Live, Canopus Total 3d 128v (riva128) PCI, PCI NIC, ISA USR sportster, PCI Avermedia TV'98, 20gig, 32Xcdr, 8x/4x/32x CDRW, 8xDVD, bla, bla, bla. Zero problems or issues.

All that crap about 300w was probably refering to the old Slot A cpu's not these new ones. AMD has many 250w supplies and some 230w supplies listed as "certified" for use with "Athlon's". Certified doesn't mean didley squat. Most DX drivers are not certified, yet most of those work as well.

ctk, sure doesn't

the Raid versions don't have the problem that the 1.2 regular had.

I have a BCI atx case w/ 250 watt ps. and MSI PRO 2-A, Duron 650@750 default voltage and no problems.
Case has AMD and Intel approved ps.
I have cheched quite a few ps. and the better ones seem to have 12.+ and 5.+ voltage where some generic ones had around 10.5 and 4.6 volts dc.

the cpu gets power from the motherboard, the motherboard gets power from the PS,
it's nonsense to say this cpu need that watts of PS.
250W PS should have at least 150W real output, that's pretty enough for many devices.

There are several 250w power supplies that are AMD approved up to Tbird 1100 according to AMD's web site.

The reason to get 300W PS is to get higher Amphere ouput for the 3.3V device to make Geforce 1 stable.
Or you've a lot of HDs, CD-ROMs, CD-RWs, DVD-ROMs, sound cards, network cards, etc inside one computer.

I use an Antec 235 on my 850, but have seen cheaper 250's fail in 800's and 850's. 300 = peace of mind... its worth the money to me.
