Hahaha, I remember when they first announced that the K7 was to be called the Athlon, everyone said the same things.

From Tom's Hardware:

<< So, say it again, Opteron. Opteron from the Latin optimus meaning best. But, we won't bore you with the marketing pitch, or push you to imagine the pictures the word Opteron is supposed to conjure up. Obviously, optimal comes to mind. Like it or lump it, people in marketing get paid good money to come up with this stuff, and while it takes some getting used to initially, it does eventually sit well. That's enough fretting about the name. >>

The other BIG news from AMD is it's CEO is stepping down.

That's been in the works for a long time. Hector Ruiz was hired awhile back to be groomed as the eventual replacement for Sanders.

But Sanders isn't going anywhere, so we'll get his delightful musings for a while yet.

Mebbe AMD will somehow work claw/sledgehammer into their marketing scheme. They're too cool to pass up IMHO.

OMG!

Imagine the kinda hilarious ads they couldve made!

A commercial with "its hammer time" in the back and a P4 being hammered in to the ground! :D

"Who are the ad wizards that came up with this one?"

Seriously, someone in AMD marketing has got a screw loose.

For one thing, the name is just too cheezy. It sounds like something from a cartoon.

And another, I'm pretty sure that we're going to be calling it [Sledge/Claw]hammer anyway.
