I thought I read somewhere that you can just plug these guys into any Socket A mobo (with a recommended HD reformat). Is this fact or fiction?

Did u try updating ur BIOS first?

I know that my 1.4 Gig TBird didn't work with the revision of the BIOS that my A7M266 shipped with (the 10.5 multiplier was not supported). I had flash the new BIOS before I could get my mobo to post with the 1.4. On the other hand, my sister's A7M266 shipped with the updated BIOS and had no problems with the 1.4.

So how did you resolve your situation? New mobo? Returned the MP?

It worked fine in my Epox 8k7a well until the motherboard died, I am still bitter about that. I dont remember if It recognized it as an Athlon4 or not, since it has been so long since I have used it(by the way did I mention I was bitter).

yes i did, the most recent version from their website. no go. i confirmed this with asus support who said they would release a bios for it, but i wasn't about to wait for it, so i returned the mp and got a 1.4 tbird for less money.
