AMD motherboards that support the XP's internal thermistor?

After my latest bios upgrade on my Asus A7N266-e, I notice a new option in the bios setting for thermal protection...anyone know if this has anything to with the thermal diode??

Most (All???) motherboards have some method of CPU thermal monitoring - usually the motherboard has its own sensor under the chip. The Athlon XP has an internal sensor, however, which until now nobody has been utilizing. It seems to make more sense to use the XP's sensor, because you can get a much more accurate idea of how hot the chip is running on the inside. I have no idea, but the thermal protection mentioned above might just be the standard motherboard sensor monitoring.

On the Asus A7V333 this onboard thermal protection will shut your system down if your CPU temp goes above 65C such as when heatsink falls off.
It does work as a number of reviews of this board have tried remving the heatsink and running the CPU bare, and the system shutdown every time when the 65C was reached.
No more fried XP's - woohoo 😀

Yes, but that could be the motherboard's own sensor.

It might work well, but I just don't understand why more motherboards aren't built utilizing the chip's own sensor.

Quite a few motherboards do use the onboard sensor. You just need to check under the ZIF socket for the pig tail sensor that sticks up. If its not there then probably using the onboard chip sensor.
