I am in the process of gathering parts for a new office machine and can't make a decision in terms of the motherboard and cpu.
I'm going amd mainly because of cost; the processors are cheap, the motherboards are cheap, and they have the 785g chipset which is important as I intend to run two 19 inch widescreens with this. My only requirement is to use a 785 matx mobo. Well, 780 or 790 would be fine but when taking into account combos the 785 seems to come out ahead.
Right now I have 3 options I am considering.
Option 1: Buy GA-MA785 + X2 245 for combo price of $126.
Option 2: Buy GA-MA785 + Sempron 140 for combo price of $97.
Option 3: Wait until black friday/cyber monday to see if any better deals pop up.
Here are the pros and cons as I see them.
Option 1:
Pros=good price for a dual core and 785g board
Cons=more expensive than option 2 by 25%.
Option 2:
Pros=very good price, potential to unlock second core on sempron
Cons=if i unlock the core it sounds like I would want an aftermarket cooler, but if unable to unlock I have a single core...then again, this should be sufficient for office tasks, right?
Option 3:
Pros=potential for better deals than 1 & 2, don't have to commit to ddr2 or ddr3 memory yet
Cons=deals could suck and I may miss out on the two current combos.
Other useful information:
I have a microcenter close by
I don't have a strict budget but want to spend the least amount possible to get what I need
I want to finish building this within the next two weeks
I do not want to buy a prebuilt machine
Given the above, what would you recommend?
