What is with these mobile processors on a desktop I keep hearing about?

Lower default voltages and unlocked multiplier on the mobiles!
In theory giving better overclocking results.
Although my 2500+ mobile needs over 1.8v to run stable, so not much better for me.
They cost a little more money than regular desktop Athlons too.

With all the talk going on for a while Id think you would already know. Well anyways they are "handpicked" Bartons that are able to operate at lower voltages than regular ones making them clock much higher and more stable.

I've heard of mobile for a while, but didn't feel like looking into it.

Not gonna buy one, if anything, I would the A64.

God im such a tech slave. I like see something new, and then I go onto the inquirer and see that they are going to release the A64 3700+ and iM like Wahhhhhhhhh i want that one. So i wait...and by the time that one comes out, its the 4000+ which is there...and im like wahhhhh I want that one. Im a slave to my wants, the want change comes almost three days before the launch of the next proc and the cycle continues. I also wanna have the most kick ass system for college.

You have to overclock an A64, unless you spend the money for a 3400, to make it faster at most things (things that aren't memory-related, or video encoding) than my 2.5ghz mobile.;)

Isn't everything either memory or video related?

I'm getting an XP-M 2600+ to clock to 2.5GHz, hopefully.

It's less than half the cost of the cheapest A64.

I think for my next PC I want to make a "sleeper". Have a simple beige or black case with no windows just a couple of hidden fans in the front and a couple in the back and maybe one on the side but it needs to be somewhat silent but really fast. Ya...
