I need to know this soon for a friend. What would be Intels equivalent chip to AMD Mobile Athlon 64 3400+? Is there any resource that I can use to compare between AMD and Intel in the notebook arena. Also how do I find out about how different Intel notebook CPUs compare to desktop CPUs.

Well I doubt intel has anything to match the 3400+ and if your laptop's purpose is for DTR then a 2400+ maybe the way to go...but beyond that I would expect a centrino to maul the 3400+ when it comes to battery life...

Well it depends a lot on what the laptop will be used for, how important battery life is, etc..it's a lot easier to make recomendations that way. You can also look at some benchmarks such as this one to get some idea.

It all depends on what is more important for you battery life or performance. The only notebook processors I have experience with is a P4-M 3.33GHz and a Athlon 64 3400+. The P4 system was a 17" toshiba and the A64 is a 15" gateway. I haven't tested the a64s battery life but from what I have experienced the a64 runs alot cooler. For example when the P4 under full load I could feel the heat coming through the keyboard, with the a64 the only heat that I feel comes out from the back of the laptop.

2.13 ghz Pentium M smacks the 3400+ I believe. Though it doesn't have 64 bit extension

In a couple benches maybe. It has been proven time and again that the PM simply does not have near the all around power the Athlon and P4 has.

Battery life is the most powerful thing the PM has going for it.
