It seems they may try to get out of the gate first. If they up the launch of the opterons then they may up the launch of their desktop Toledo's sooner as well.. Maybe this was done for that reason. They wanted to release dual core in the server market first. Actually the place it serves the best prupose if we want to be honest about it. Joe six back barely uses cpu usage now let alone multi-tasks. AMDs other main users gamers wont stand to gain much in most games since they are not currently multithreaded. That way I think we look for a showdown with Intel who I though recently said they were "ahead of schedule" on their P4-D plans...

AMD really needs to be right there when Intel does this. Lets be honest Intel was not first to think about going dual core. Up until 6-8 months ago when they started scrapping the Tejas line it was still obvious Intel planned on racing a bit more with the single cores. However AMD had designed the opteron and A64 for just this prupose. It has to piss you off if you are AMD to get beat to the market first with this and have INtel take the credit for the idea.

I really hope AMD pummels Intel on the dual core platform! Intel is practicing its normal "MegaCorp" tactics, trying to use its massive resources and market saturation to beat AMD with its own ideas.

I do enjoy Intel being forced to respond to AMD inovations:) It's obvious Intel no longer considers AMD a fly on their butt.

IMO AMD needs to drum up some serious capital and accelerate there next FAB plant, now is the time for them to double their production capacity. I think the door will be open for AMD to significantly increase their market share in the server/workstation market with the dual core Opterons, as long as AMD can promote the development and improvement of multi-cpu server class boards for the Opteron platform. I actually think progress will come easier in the server/workstation market than in the desktop market for AMD.

They better get them out soon. INtel is starting to paper launch its dual cores for the desktop and will get that marketing edge, yet again....
