As most of us breathe a collective sigh now that CES is over, I wanted to share something that isn?t staying in Vegas. As many of you know AMD Phenom? II processors are the heart of Dragon platform technology; and even in the middle of the desert, this platform was as cool as liquid helium. During a live extreme overclocking event in Las Vegas last Saturday, January 10th, 2009 ? this platform set new world records for frequency, performance and low temperature.

The event was arranged by Xtremesystems.org and a number of companies were invited ? AMD, Intel, Gigabyte, DFI, Coolermaster, EVGA and others. With liquid helium cooling these new processors to approximately -225 degrees Celsius, we ran the popular 3DMark05 benchmark and quickly reached a 3D stable processor clock speed of 6.3 GHz. We used AMD OverDrive? tuning software to set and control performance. We ran multiple 3DMark05 runs in front of the live audience, increasing the clock frequency (with AMD OverDrive) and the score on the fly from around 44,000 3DMarks at 6.2 GHz up to the record-breaking 45,474 3DMarks at 6.3 GHz. See official results here: http://www.futuremark.com/community/hal ... /3dmark05/.

In the record breaking run, the AMD Phenom II processor ran at 6.301 GHz with the North Bridge overclocked to 3.843 GHz. The DFI LP DK 790FXB-M2RS motherboard ran OCZ Reaper DDR2-1200 rated memory modules and a pair of ATI Radeon? HD 4870 X2 graphics cards aircooled at 800 to 950MHz utilizing ATI CrossFireX? technology.

More Facts:

CPU-Z frequency 6.435 GHz verification file was saved and officially approved (although 6.509 GHz was displayed on the big screen during the show), the highest clock frequency ever recorded on a quad core x86 CPU. CPU-Z validation link for 6.435 GHz: http://valid.canardpc.com/show_oc.php?id=483738.

New, official 3DMark05 World record of 45,474 3DMarks was achieved in front of the live audience: the AMD Phenom II processor ran at 6.301 GHz during the benchmark, ATI Radeon 4870X2 video cards ran with the stock cooler.
Official ranking: http://www.futuremark.com/community/hal ... /3dmark05/

The first live demo with Liquid Helium cooling and sub -200C temperatures (NOTE: the temperature meters were out of range at sub -200 degrees C, the actual temperature might have been lower than -242 degrees C). The Liquid Helium cooling solution reached an idle temperature of approximately -242 C (-403.6F). AMD Phenom II CPU was stable and operational under these extreme conditions.

So now that we pull our heads out of our arse and get back to reality....How high does the Phenom II overclock on air and water like normal fvcking people who cannot get a hold of liquid helium....

This kinda shite is just plain stupid...

Also based on phenom results that have been leaked what speed i7 woudl it take to match that record....Somehow I dont think it will need 6.4ghz...

Did they run any real world benchmarks? I mean I love playnig 3dmoark05 like the next guy...Haha

Stop talking sensible and just enjoy this fantasy. Who cares about real world usage when you have 6GHz running an intangible benchmark? 6GHz! 3DMark! Records!... and so on.

From what I've seen most people can do 3.8ghz fairly easy with a 940, with 1.45-1.5vcore. I've seen NB overclocks in the 2700mhz range. Everyone got up to 3.6ghz. Higher clocks need better boards though, like dfi's 790fx. SB750 is also recommended, vs SB600.

That's all air btw, watercooling, giving the cpu 1.55-1.6vcore, could prolly do 4.0ghz.

According to the same thread over at XS . Intel took record back that same nite. Forgive if I get this wrong . Numbers I remember from that thread . Intel took back record at 5.6GHZ . They have a link to top scores. It was XS that put this show on.

Awesome, I can think of literally dozens of ways in which this activity has enhanced shareholder returns. Pissing matches do that don't they? Increase gross margins and all that?

Intel's pricing war is turning into a joke as well. Wonder how many of their employees they had to sacrifice just to piss off AMD? The plan would of worked solidly if the fact that we were not going into one of the worst recessions in decades.

It was just a publicity stunt at a technology show, it wasn't meant to be 'reality'. I don't give a shit about 3DMark scores, SuperPi scores, PCMark scores, etc. But there are some people that do seem get enjoyment out of suicide runs for a record, more power to them. PhII is supposed to be much better then PhI as far as overclocking goes, the reviews I saw basically showed upper 3GHz range was achievable under 'normal' circumstances.

What Intel price war?? Intel cuts price every jan . Intel just released new processor . I haven't seen price cuts on those . The old tech naturally drops in price. The Guy that showed he was the smartest of them all was Dave Ortin He got great price for ATI stock holders. Love ya Dave.

You can LOL at intel if ya want. But thats about as smart as AMD calling intel out . Which proved to be dumb as hell.

I know that wasn't pointed at me . But ya know what. I was 32 when an idoit was to cheap to buy proper equipment . Lost his right rear tire. And wiped my ass out. Took 2 years to walk again . Now I can't hardly move . Because a drunk rearend me. I seen it coming but was trapped hurt like hell when ya know its coming . NO I didn't get big $$$ . I had to sue the first one just to get hospital bills paid $300,000 bill. The second one I just took what they offered, Wasn't much . But by that time I was playing stocks really well .Had good business. So I didn't care about the money . Just my health. Both times happened in the same city20 years apart on june 20 . My car number is 20 or my sons number I should say .

I won't LOL at others misfortune but it doesn't bother me at all . If you believe all works out. If ya don't good luck you will need it.

You're right, it wasn't directed at you, it was directed at anyone laughing at or finding humor in anyone losing their job, from any perspective or company...

That was one nasty streak of bad luck that you had & I am personally glad to hear you made it through ok...
