AMD Kuma X2... do I need a custom HSF?

I'm getting this processor:

And I plan to overclock it rather high. Does the stock HSF on this processor do the job, or should I get a custom one? If I do need one, what is a good HSF that comes under $40 shipped with all the necessary parts (included mounting brackets and whatnot)?

Both of those are 92mm fans. I would recommend a 120mm for better performance/quieter. As for mounting, most of them should be AM2+/3 compatible, though check the specs before getting it to make sure. In terms of mounting bracket, everything is in the package. Only the Intel platform needs additional backplate (if they don't like push pins)

Well this one isn't too pricey, but it's a good bit more expensive than the other ones. The reviews keep on saying that the bracket is needed to not stress the motherboard... is this problem still present with the AM2 socket?

get the S-1283. it's a good cooler and it stands up well to the heat a dual core gives off. mounting mechanism for 939/AM2(+)/AM3 (its basically all the same) is provided with the cooler, so that shouldnt be an issue. alternatively, there is a design clone made by kingwin, and one with an identical base and improved fin design built by OCZ (the vendetta 2). any of these 3 should perform well enough to cool a kuma dual core, just buy whichever is cheapest and order it up.

i have a vendetta2 cooling my lapped Athlon64 4000+ and the thing doesnt even break much above 30-35c at load, and my e5200 @ 1.39vcore bios (1.36v CPUz) doesnt go much above 60c under the S-1283 with stock fan, and even better with push/pull low speed yates for maximum quiet/CFM. i also popped the push pins off and used a thermalright bolt through kit, so im basically running it at about where the dark knight would perform. still, in stock config it did well enough on its own anyway.
