Is there a software patch that will allow an K63+ chip to run with Win ME? I know that cacheonw.exe works great with Win98 but not with ME.......There must be something out there!?!?! Thanks...........Bob:cool:

what motherboard do you have? A lot of boards won't run that chip properly.

I have a cheap old Delhi 3 that runs the chip really well...............@600 mhz I might add ......cacheonw is a software patch that is dos based and allows the portable k63 chip to work on a regular board with win98. Win ME willnot let me load the cacheonw program because it does not recognize dos on boot up. This is the best socket 7 chip ever made and I will probably go back to win98 so that I can use it. It is twice as fast as the k62-450. But I know there is a software solution out there and I want to find it.......................Bob

I'd go back to Win98 if I were you ,I havent heard a good thing said about Win ME yet ,its supposed to be very unstable!

Btw I thought the only issues of running a K6-3+ with an older S7 m/brd were voltage support & bios support.
Are you saying the DOS program you mentioned gets around the bios problem?
Have you got a link to the site? ,I'd be interested to read up about it.

Howdy..........ME seems to be stable but I miss my k63+....so I am going back to 98.

is the link to the cacheonw.exe website. It is a software fix that makes up for the bios. It enables the on chip cache in the k62+ and k63+ chips. This old board can set the voltage down to 2.0 which I have run both chips at without a hitch. BTW the onboard cache must be disabled for this to work.......I have a k62+550 and the k63+450 and they both run well @ 600 with the k63+450 slightly faster in the benchmarks than the other. Some people have set the voltage up to 2.1 but I have had no problem with 2.0.........Microsoft is slowly dropping dos......I started with dos 1.1 and still have copies of dos 5 and 6 which are pretty handy sometimes.

I have a system with a K6-3+ 450 in an ASUS P/I-P55T2P4 HX chipset mobo. I found a hacked BIOS for it HERE. The ASUS doesn't have 100 MHz FSB, so I run it 6 x 75 =450 MHz. Sweet little chip.

Thanks for the link...The Delhi3 MB has a flashable bios but no updates that accomodate the k63+ or k62+ chips :( It does however have 100mhz frontside bus....It appears that I am forced to go back to win98...... It is a very sweet chip indeed.
