Worked for me too. I have bought from PC Liquidator four times in the past two months, so I feel like I deserve this!

How much is shipping? Mighty tempting for a cheap upgrade to my piece of crap k6-2 475. Any benchmarks comparing k6-2 to k6-3+?

Shipping is between $6 and $8 for ground. I'm tired of UPS not leaving small packages inside my screen door without handing to me personally, so I paid a dollar more for Airbourne Express. On this order, PC Liquidator gave me about ten different shipping options, including UPS and Fed Ex, in addition to Airbourne. It is nice to have options.

I don't really like the "as-is" part of this deal, but I think it is worth a gamble. In the past I got some pretty good deals from this place. I did get one mouse that didn't work at all. Cost was only $5, so I ate that one.

Looked at this over and over. Don't really need it, but when will this come along again for that kid's upgrade? (try finding reasonable K6-3 around). Thanks

I know the Duron costs about the same or less... But then I need a new motherboard, a new case, new ram (all my PC100 would hold the system back)... That all is going to cast me more than dropping the $ on the k6III+...

Overcloked to 600 and it runs quite nice....

geez, tell me where I can get a Duron 600 & abit kt7 for the grand total of $47. It's funny, but some people miss the point entirely of buying a K6-3+...

Might not have the $ for a new mobo & proc... Might just be looking to extend the life of their systems for a few more months...

A linux box does not require fast computer, a computer uses for children to log online does not require a fast computer. People upgrade their computer to fit their own needs and they do not need your not so humble opinion ...

This chip is a Hot deal for us laptop users, I gained more than 50% more performance for $60.00.
It is all perspective, upgrading a laptop is a special situation.

I've got a Compaq Presario 1255 with a 333Mhz K6-2. Anyone know if the 450 would work for me? I don't know whether it's Super 7 or not.

Some one else put this up a little while ago and a person that works there even saw the board and wrote that the reason they are sold as is, is because that when he put one in a motherboard he did not change the Voltage and burned one up so he didn't want to have to eat a lot of returns when others did that, but have heard that no one as yet that I have heard has got a bad one and they do overclock well if your board can do 2.0V and go up to or over 550mhz rating.
Just thought I add this since some of you were frowning on the AS-IS part of the deal.

The folks over at AMDZone have been around the block with compatability issues of the K6 '+' processors and existing systems - Post the question on their Forum. Your best bet is probably to post/look on the K6-X Series CPUs.

From what I've read, there are issues for some motherboard users and the BIOS recognizing the chip correctly...

Good Luck

I have one from last week 550Mhz 2.1v and just ordered another. It's week 25 2000. Maybe this one will do 600Mhz 2.2v max! Man do these run cool[y].

Tank:
333 implies old socket 7, so look for an old K6-III 350 sold as notebook. I have 2 that do 400Mhz 2.4v ($39) and a 400 ($82) at 450 2.4v all stable.

I think if you look carefully at the end of the last thread you will find 2 cases where the chip was probably bad. In the first case there was enough griping in this forum and they decided to RMA it with a 20% restocking fee. I don't think they took the second one back. But that is 2 failures out of a fairly large number.

End of previous thread

Another writer, who had maintenance experiance with a large number of AMD processors, said AMD does occasionally produce bad ones. He thinks they have a higher failure rate then Intel.

So, I think the risk is small but real. And PCliquidators seems to be standing by thier "as-is" policy.

Does anyone know how to get this processor (or any K6-2 processor for that matter) to run on a socket 7 MB. Are there any adapters available to convert S7 to Super7??

Try Powerleap. They sell a couple of adapters one for K6-2 (PL-ProMMX), one for K6-3 (PL-K6-III) that'll let you run a K6-x on a socket 5 or socket 7 system. Their website states that their PL-K6-III adapter will run future K6-2+ processors. They also have a list of compatible systems and mobos...

Got my k6-3+ 450 @ 630Mhz on my aopen mx59 pro2 mobo. 105 bus x6=630Mhz @ 2.05 volts......yea. I think I can get more but I dont want to push it. I can go up in .05 volt increments with this board so maybe I will try more later when I get bored of 630Mhz. I figure I can probrobly get it to run at 110 bus x 6(2)@ 2.1volts...........yea again. It's a big improvement from my 350 k6-2

For anyone with a FIC motherboard, this is from thier Taiwan website.

"We understand there is some area in this world lack of AMD K6(2) CPU supply, user was force to switch to AMD mobile CPU, we offer beta bios for user who are aware that risk they take to combinate K6(2)+ or K6(3)+ with our socket 7 board. FIC has no rigid test reports for these combinations and we will not offer any further support of this case. Here are list of bios filename and FIC socket 7 models for it"
VA-503+ JE4330
PA-2013 JI4330
VA-503A JO4116 & JN4116
(If you confuse on two bios, please follow original "English Letter" serial)
PAG-2130 SA4122 & SB4122
Here is a link to their support page and the bios downloads

I am currently testing the K6-III+ 450 on one of the Overstock MSI 5185 refurb boards. The BIOS identifies the CPU as "AMD Unknown 450." Performance is atrocious. Boy this thing is a dog. With a standard K6-2, performance wasn't great on this board, but it was certainly acceptable for many people. The Gateway BIOS of this mainboard includes almost zero tweaks and for stability they have it set real slow. But it is OK with the K6-2. Even a standard K6-III is OK in performance. But this III+ is a real dog. It feels like a 486 with a mode 3 hard drive and 16MB of memory. Windows says the system is optimally configured. WCPUID correctly identifies the chip and says it has all the cache it should. WCPUID even shows it having extended 3D Now instructions, which the K6-2 and K6-3 don't have. Everything appears to be setup and working OK. Except it is dead slow.

It almost seems like the onboard CPU cache is not working correctly. I don't know what to blame, the CPU or the mainboard not correctly identifying the III+. Right now I am inclined to blame the "as-is" CPU. Until I can test this in a mainboard with actual BIOS support for these chips, I won't know for sure.

BTW, I have the latest BIOS for the Gateway MSI 5185.
