Was previously running a K6-2 350 in this machine. Dropped in the k6-3+, set the voltage to 2.0V and the multiplier to 4.5. Upon boot, the CPU is listed as simply 66mhz, no brand or anything. it runs thru the RAM test, and then stops and goes no further.

This MB is using the latest BIOS upgrade. I've tried everything I can think of to get this to run correctly, but have come up miserably short. If more information about the setup is needed, please post here and let me know. As always, any help is greatly appreciated at this point....:)

beamrider- THE POST BELOW ASSUMES YOU HAVE A REVISION 1.2 FIC VA-503+ MOTHERBOARD.

First, when you say latest BIOS upgrade, you do mean the BETA BIOS JE4331

If you don't have this BIOS, then download it by clicking on the link provided.

If you do indeed have this BIOS (your board must be ver1.2), then you should have no trouble running the processor in the computer.

Try yanking everything out but the basics and trying again.

Posting your system spec's would sort of help.

Also, you should try posting over at SlotA, they have a K6-X forum there that's much more experienced than I am at this.

Good luck!

Well, I assume the motherboard is rev1.2. It says 1.2A in the right rear corner......

As for the BIOS, he's running JE439, which is the latest version listed on FIC's website. I can't find the version that you posted on their website ( the link does however work, and I'm sending the file to him now........)

System specs: 192M PC100 ram, ATI Rage fury 32M, and I believe an old I/OMagic sound card. I just don't understand why it wouldn't get past the mem check, tho.......lol

beamrider- Yes, the board is the correct revision for that BIOS.

You are also correct in that the latest BIOS listed when using the BIOS Finder on FIC's website is the -39 BIOS.

However, if you read the FAQ for the board, you will see that FIC released a JE4330 BIOS specifically for the K6-X+ series of chips. Since then, they have released another BIOS revision to solve some problem in Windows Me. This is the BIOS that I linked to. I'm going to assume that for the JE4331 BIOS, they just took the JE4330 BIOS and made the fix for Me.

So...the JE4331 BIOS is the most up to date BIOS that FIC has for the VA-503+.

UPDATE: If the JE4331 BIOS does not work, go to the FAQ for the VA-503+ on FIC's website and download the JE4330 BIOS. I guess it is possible that the only BIOS file they have that supports the K6-X+ series is the JE4330. You should of course try the JE4331 BIOS first, as it is the newest.

Hope this helps!

Chunky 2 is right on this one. You must have the listed bios to recognize the k3+ properly. Once you have flashed the bios everything should work fine. with good cooling you should be able to hit 600mz. Check out AMD Zone Forums, it is loaded with advise concerning the k3+

It was sure Pandemonium!

beamrider- Download the -39 BIOS here.

Unzip into a temporary directory and copy the flash73.exe file onto you bootable disk (the one you created by typing "format a: /s"). Then copy the JE4331 .bin file onto the floppy. Reboot the computer and let it boot from the floppy. At the A:\> prompt, type:

flash73 je4331.bin backup.bin /Py /Sy

then hit the enter key.

DO NOT SHUT THE COMPUTER OFF UNTIL IT SAYS PROGRAMMING IS COMPLETE.

This should be all you need.

And of course, make sure to backup any important files in case you need to reload Windows.

Let us know how it works.

K6-3+ 450@600 with JE4330 BIOS on a 1.1a version of the board. 1.2x board ver is not absolutely required..

Yeah Zor Prime, I was wondering about that, but I wasn't sure if the new BIOS's that FIC released were for just the 1.2 (1.2A) boards or if they were for all of them.

I didn't want beamrider to mess up his board right away if it didn't work, so I was playing it kind of safe.

Glad to year you got your 1.1 working!
