I was looking to build a system for under 170.00 bucks ....

Sure you can get these for 45.00 or as little as 38.00 but then add a fan and the shipping (not to mention the spotty reputation of some of these vendors)....

Access Micro has them for 46 + 9.95 shipping

Anyone know of any cheaper deals? Buy.com + coupon? Let me know...

A K6-III+ 450 (Plus) that does 550-600 and way faster at 450, than the fastest K6-II...at softwareandstuff.com price rose $10 to $64(I think) + $6 UPS ground. Week 25, 2000

GOOD call .... but this is going into an ALL-in-one board for the folks..... So Overclocking won't really be a factor.... More $$$ is a factor...

Thanks though.

I suppose, if it's an internet PC, but 550MHZ on a notebook CPU is undermarked for a desktop. Runs cool too, for others that may be interested. I also have 2 from PC Liquidators. 2 do 600 and 1 does 550 stable.

$170 for a system using an all-in-one board. Hummm.

Quality Epox EP-8KTA+ Socket A board w/sound $95 shipped.
Duron 650/900Mhz retail with HSF and 3 year warranty $70 shipped

Total $165 shipped without video.
Even an old 3dfx V3 100 would be better than onboard video, so add $40 for that. (or a used V3 3000). $80 for a GeForce2 MX if you want a "Real Gaming Machine".

For $205 this 900MHz+ system is more than 3X the K6-2 system could ever be. I just sold a K6-2 500, and did this upgrade, so I should know!

EDIT
Just found this other link to a decent deal:
Duron 700 + MOBO w/sound + HSF $137

Absolutely agree! I would rather do with an older FIC AZ11 MB (stable, but no overclocking) plus a Duron 700, combo price at bzboys.com for $140. It comes with HSF too.

Then throw in a cheap video card, I found one locally (OEM) for $20 bucks (8 meg video, SIS based), hell for the folks, its more than enough.

And if you want to get crafty with the wire bridges on the top of the CPU,
you could probably overclock that thing no sweat to 850-900 Mhz...

And no offense, but that thing would SH*T all over any K6-6 processor...
