Hey guys,
My roommate is looking to give his old K6-2 400 desktop a little kick in the pants, to help make it last just a little bit longer. He's got 128 megs of PC100 (1 stick of 64mb, 2 sticks of 32mb) on a Gigabyte GA-5AA (I just flashed to the newest BIOS). From what I can tell, the motherboard can handle the higher bus speeds, but does anyone have any experience with this chip/chipset (mobo uses ALi Aladdin V chipset)? How far can it go reasonably?
I did get the system to post at 450 without a voltage change, but it hung on BIOS load... I can only presume I need to bump the voltage. Any ideas to help me out?

Thanks guys,
Aaron

My dad has an Ibm aptiva with that chipset (SLOW).I would sugest geting the fsb higher(and lowering the multiplier to 3.5x if it isnt stable at 448) this should give a good performance increase.

Best I could do with a 400 was 504 (4.5X112) on a Fic VA-503
Cooling was critical- especially after you bump up the voltage- in my case, up to 2.7

My first system was the Aptiva K6-400 and didn't have any luck overclocking. I think the motherboard just doesn't have waht it takes.
Yes, you can adjust settings but I couldn't get it to go past the bios.

If you are more persistent than I was, these might help:

Overclocking the AMD K6-2 here.

Several other K6 articles listed here.

Check the CPU Database here They have a long list of overclocking results from individuals for the K6-2 400.

Good luck!:)

I have a k6-2 450 on a p5a-b board.

This cpu is running 540 at the moment, which is 4.5x120, stable as a rock.

I don't know if every Alladin V board can handle those kinda bus speeds, but
mine sure does seem to do pretty well.
