Recall story

Advanced Micro Devices is trying to track down and replace as many as 3,000 Opteron processors that could produce "inconsistent results" under an unusual, high-temperature circumstance

Very cautious of them, and the timing sure sucks...

IIRC, this problem has Never been experienced outside of AMD's Labs. So, it shouldn't be any problems to just simply recall the few that are out there.

Is this the dreaded shutdown issue with high Ghz clocks? Good thing they didn't list 146s. :)

This issue is highly rare and only affects x54 and x52 single core opteron procs. Basically, if you run a specific FPU intensive app, the proc will first go nuclear, then just shutdown on you. If you run commercial appz (web server, etc), it doesn't really affect you.

Its funny how tiny little problems that will never actually happen in real life become such a big deal. Of course Intel got screwed with it before, so AMD decided it was best to get ahead of the issue and give out replacements. Honestly, if i had one of these procs i wouldnt even go threw the hassle to replace it.
