Details here

Maybe someone can explain this to me. Its says its based on the mips32 instruction set, so will it be able to run PalmOS 5 and PocketPC 2002 and beyond?

I thought those were only for ARM based processors.

now that IS interesting, AMD portables, when PowerVR release that 3D chipset for PDA's that can run Unreal 1 and Tombraider, i wonder how it stacks against a Intel on 3DPDAMark2003?

Bah, XScale looks much more interesting. :D

But who knows, XScale may find this to be good competition...

Don't forget that ATI is also working on a similar chip. The Imageon, IIRC.

I'm suprised that AGodspeed isn't more excited about this. He's probably known about it for a while though since he always seems to know what AMD is up to.

I dunno about AMD in general, but he is definately the Hammer newguy

Whenever I find something interesting about Hammer and decide to post it, I ways search for his name first to make sure its not a repost :)

I thought AMD wanted out of the embedded processor area - didn't they close some of the fabs that manufactured them?

Ugh. The best thing to happen to the PocketPC was for the cpu to be standardized. Developers hate writing code to all the different cpus and generally resort to only supporting Ipaq.

Nothing terribly new, AMD's been handing out pre-release details on the chip for the last couple months to anyone that wrote to them about it.
